Super infrequent poster but I read the board daily...an earlier post got me wondering.
For those of you who tore or didn't tear - did your nurses/ob/midwife massage your perineum or apply hot/wet compresses at all (or name something else they did) and do you feel like it helped prevent/lessen your tearing?
Curious for us end of monthers!
Re: speaking of tearing...
Tore with episiotomy every time.
ETA: I ended up with natural tearing, needed muscle repair and a midline episiotomy.

Second: 2nd degree and another small tear, recovery has been a breeze in comparison. I dont known if they did a massage but "Zac" was brought in specifically to protect my perinuim while the doc delivered. Guess he did his job. Lol.
2nd delivery, twins quite a bit bigger (4lbs 7oz and 5lbs 4oz) with a sunny-side-up position for B. No massage, 2nd degree and bilateral labial tears, which took a wile to stitch up - mostly because I was PPHing and that took priority.
ETA: I'm a FTM btw

Recovery was very easy- a little tender for a couple days, but I felt WAY better than I thought I would after pushing out a baby!
Born 2/4/14
Weighing 6 lbs 10 oz and 20 inches long
5 vaginal deliveries, two docs three midwives, no tears why? Yes they all massaged during delivery but honestly for me it's the size of the baby and size of me/ plus speed of pushing stage. My babies were: 5lb9oz up to 7lb 6oz
I believe your body is going to do what it is going to do regardless of preparation- based on babies I think your body is going to do what your body is going to do based on your structure and the babies size regardless of massage... just my opinion
First birth: total time- 8 hours with an epidural. Two internal 2nd degree tears and an episiotomy. Awful recovery and a prolapsed bladder at 5 weeks pp.
2nd birth: total time: 1 hour and 57 minutes med-free due to fast labor/delivery. One second degree external perineal tear. Super easy recovery.
