People are so weird!!

So, I work with a girl who is a total 1-upper! She has done everything better and everything that she does is so much more amazing then anything you could do. So, today... It came up that I'm pregnant and having a boy. She mentioned that everyone she knows is having a boy, so I just said something about that being funny but you have a 50/50 chance. Her response was that you can choose the sex of your baby now. I said something about the centrifuge and IUI, but that I didn't know how guaranteed that was. She then tells me that she means with IVF. Offended is the wrong word, but I felt really weird about that comment, so I said something along the lines of, "anyone doing IVF for the sole person of getting their preferred sex of baby may need to re-evaluate why they want to have a baby in the first place." So she said something stupid and I said, "as someone who has gone through IVF, I just can't imagine putting my body through what it went through simply because I want a boy or want a girl." 

Well, as I should have guessed, she is ALSO infertile, although still taking BCPs and has never actually tried to have a baby but EVERY doctor she's ever gone to has told her that she's going to have a lot of difficulty getting pregnant, but she has no diagnosis... 

I get that you need to be a 1-upper, but is fertility status REALLY something you want to be competing for?!?!

4 rounds of Clomid = no response
IVF # 1 - ET (1 3AA, 4 frosties): 12/22 = BFP
EDD: 9/9/2014

    Oh boy.  Well if turns out she IS infertile, and has to go through everything we did, then that will be a lesson in humility for her.  Otherwise, she'll just keep living in her wonderful bubble world.  Yuk.

    OMG the nerve of some people.
    Me 29 DH 30 Unexplained IF TTC since wedding May 2012. IUI #1 11/5/13-BFN.  IUI #2 12/5/13-BFN. IUI #3-12/30/14. All three with Femara CD 3-7 and Ovidrel trigger. +HPT 1/13/14 First +ever!!! Beta #1 195 Beta #2 1/15-533. Ultrasound on 2/4 showed one bean. EDD 9/22/14. Team Green turned Team Blue-Baby Conner arrived on 9/19/14.

    Let her. I tend to find that 1-uppers really need to have the "best" or "worst" of every situation because of severe insecurities. It's annoying as hell. I think what you said was really appropriate and I'm sure had some effect on her as she felt the need to one-up with some ridiculous self-diagnosis in infertility.
    Once she turns away, give yourself the gift of allowing a HUGE eyeroll at her.
    And like PPs said, if she does have some infertility issues, she will certainly learn to eat her words.

    People like that make me so mad!!! I have to keep reminding myself that they are only doing that out of their own feelings of insecurity.. But still, they suck.

    Idiot! People need to keep comments to themselves.
    Me: 33 - PCOS & Hypothyroidism DH: 35 - SA is good Married since 2010 (together since 2006) TTC since June 2009 (we knew we would have issues and wanted family right away after we got married). No pregnancies yet. May 2013 - started first round of Chlomid & ovidrel cycle.

    Clearly this chic has no idea what she's talking about when it comes to the IF world.  What a moron.  I hate 1-uppers, like really WHO CARES?!?  It's especially obnoxious when they try to 1-up something already negative.  *major eye roll*
