Question about nursing pillows for twins

Hello MOMs!  I'm pregnant with a singleton, but my best friend just discovered she's pregnant with twins, and I was hoping to get her a nursing pillow.  I know she hopes to tandem nurse and I thought it might be a nice surprise to celebrate her wonderful news.  I looked at the FAQ link at the top of the board and didn't see this addressed anywhere.  I was debating between the San Diego Double Blessings vs. the Brest Friend twin pillow, but both seem to have a lot of negative reviews on quality, fit, back support, etc.  I would appreciate any advice.  Thank you so much!

Re: Question about nursing pillows for twins

  • I have the my breast friend twin delux. It's good at first but honestly now I just use a regular boppy or nothing at all. The MBF is huge which means you can not use it just anywhere. It worked nice for in bed though. The quality I'm not sure why anyone would talk badly about because it is really nicely made and the cover is super soft and easy to wash and has great back support and great fit. I have yet to hear anyone here complain about those things. Even though I do not own one I would suggest the twin z pillow it is a multi-functional twin nursing pillow.

  • I used a regular boppy until ~8 months.

  • I use a my Brest friend pillow. I have always preferred nursing in bed, even w my singleton, so size isn't an issue.

They're 9mo and still fit comfortably with enough support under them from the foam.

  • Thank you for the suggestions. @TheDairyQueenx3‌ - some of the reviews on Amazon said that the foam inside started chipping off when they would remove the cover. And others said that they couldn't get it tight enough to close the gap between the pillow and the mom's body. I was looking at the twin z too. I like that it can be used to prop up the babies too.

  • I use the brest friend twin pillow.  Overall I like it, but have had a few dislikes too.  At 10 1/2 months, it still supports them perfectly and I haven't had any issues with the foam. However, the back "support" has annoyed me to no end.  For me it didn't provide any support and I have/had to use another pillow behind it (I usually nurse them on the couch). I also have had gapping issues, and I'm not petite (5'8" and 145 right now - grr baby weight).  We used a regular boppy when out and about, but it wasn't supportive.  Even with my dislikes, I would still purchase it again.
  • Aahhh ok! Yes that makes total sense. Mine did chip off in very small bits but it has yet to be an issue and I wash the cover daily. But (and now keep in mind I do love my MBF a lot!!) I do recommend the twin z because let's say she can't BF for what ever reason the twin z won't be a total waste like the MBF because it makes a great seat or the babies. When I'm not nursing I have no other purpose for my MBF.

Lol NOPE *sleepy deprived mommy brain* I do not wash it daily I wash it weekly. But still none the less it only chipped in like 2 small spots. Oh also I can clip it on me and if I was feeding one at a time I can walk around and nurse and it stays in place. But the support is fabulous and I have been using it for 5 months. They each have good and bad points :)

  • Thanks! Lots to think about. I'd hate for it to not work for her at all. I appreciate everyone's input. :)

This, exactly!  I really wanna get the Twin Z for a true comparison because I've heard good things about that one too but can't bring myself to spend the money.  I do like that the Twin Z can be more multi-functional.

This. I got the twin z pillow and haven't had the chance to use it yet (10 more days!!). It was $99 on amazon.

  • I have the twin z pillow.  It works great. Plus, as pp's have mentioned, it can be used for other purposes.  I use it prop both of them up when I read to them.  Also it's great for tandem tummy time.

Absolutely! I tried it out sans babies and looooved the back support it offered. But I will for sure let you know how it actually works when the boys use it.

  • I love the My Brest Friend pillow, and I actually bought it when I had DS because its also marketed for plus sized women. I rarely tandem nurse, but I still like the extra space it gives me. If there's a way for you to check a secondhand baby store for it, I'd do that - they're often sold in almost-new condition for way cheaper.

  • I've been using a boppy in rocking chairs and the twin MBF pillow to tandem nurse on the couch. My twins are pretty small and at 6 weeks I still have to prop them up with extra blankets no matter which method I use. I really like the MBF pillow but it can be a bit of a pain to get situated. As PP's have said, the back support is also an issue for me but I just put a pillow behind me and it's nbd.

  • I got a San Diego Baby and was not impressed. When the girls were tiny, I had to add pillows to get extra support out of it. And the cover was so difficult to put on and off. I ended up just using a boppy. And stopped trying to tandem feed. Actually ran to target for a boppy and donated the San Diego baby. Hopefully someone got some use out of it.
That's so sweet of you to do for your friend!
