intro

Hello all,

I am not new to ttc but new to the boards here.  I signed up awhile back but got a little side tracked with my ridiculous body revolting.  While it is still revolting, I'm sick and tired of hearing everyone, including my dr tell me to just relax, and since I've already had kids it'll be fine.  Clearly NOT fine.  my twin 9 year old girls were.....a surprise with my ex.  My son with my current hubs....not so much.  a full year of trying and finally he came.  So we decided to try for just one more as we're not getting any younger (30&35) and last time was such a production.  (I think dh wants a girl).  anyway, i went off the pill a little less than 2 years ago and we have been actively trying for 14 months now.  in the process of trying to figure out what my next step is at this point.  Super short frustrating cycles.  If i was a dr I might try and perform my hysterectomy at this point!  haha!  I've just had a really rough couple of days and it doesnt seem there's much of an end in sight at the moment, although i know in my head that must not be true.
Rant over, pity party done....for this cycle.  Check back in 13 days when the next one starts:(
grrr;)
thanks for listening to my giant rant.

Well for starters, it can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive, that is still well within the normal range. In fact, all the specialists I've talked to said they do not really consider there to be any issues until you hit the 2 year point of trying, even though the technical definition is 1 year of trying without success, a lot of the time the problem is just bad timing.

Have you been charting? Or doing OPKs?

14 months is really not too long, some people just take a little longer to conceive, but you can certainly try to increase your chances by charting your cycles.

Check out the TTGP board. Good luck.

  • I second what @Mrs Castillo‌ said. Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is the charting bible. Sign up for a fertility friend account and chart your cycles. I would temp vaginally as I have been charting several months now and I'm finding oral not reliable.

Also invest in some wondfo OPKs off amazon and take them twice a day so you catch your LH surge as early as possible.

While you're on amazon order pre-seed. It is fertility friendly lubricant. It is awesome.

The ladies on TTGP can help you and answer questions you have about charting.

If you've done all that for another year- call the RE.

  • I've tried charting and OPKs.  i just stopped doing those a few weeks ago bc it wasnt helping anything and my temps never seemed to move.  according to OPKs I never ovulated.  with my 12-26 day cycles who knows it that is even true though;)  My obgyn did an ultrasound in January and told me everything looks fine so she wants to put me on BCP for 2 months.  Not thrilled but I don't know what else to do.  These ridiculously short cycles are driving me bonkers at this point.  haha
Thanks so much for reading...even if I sound like I am going off the deep end

  • btw, how do I change my avatar?  I do it on my website but it still hasn't changed here.

    Thanks
  • I've been doing acupuncture to regulate my cycles. A girl now on PAIF recommended it to me and it gave her 28 day cycles with Ovulation on day 14.

Try using a BASAL thermometer that goes to the hundredth, that might be the reason why you weren't seeing a change in your temps, but trust me, you will notice a change with a basal therm, even if the variation is just a couple hundredths of a degree, and that could help you identify what's really going on.

  • ^^ yes they are in the same aisle as pregnancy tests and condoms. Make sure you get at least 3 hours of sleep and do it first thing before you get up to pee. I set an alarm and keep my therm on the nightstand.

  • Yeah get that book taking Charge of Your Fertility! It seriously change my life in regards to fertility and trying to get pregnant. Learn how to chart, and it will definitely reveal what's going on inside your uterus. FertilityFriend.com will also send you tutorials when you sign up, make sure to read them. If you chart for a couple months, and you can identify a very clear problem with your cycles, take that to your doctor and your doctor will be able to help you find a solution. But just an ultrasound or just telling them you have strange cycles is not going to be helpful enough information for them to do something about your problems.

I also agree with the other ladies I suggest checking out the TT GP bored. You're very early in your process, and those ladies will probably be at a similar place as you.

And definitely do not knock the natural remedies untill you try them. They might work for you, they might not. But everybody on this board has probably done some pretty wacky stuff in an attempt to get pregnant. And for a lot of people it does work.

  • I had been charting with a hundredth decimal bbt thermometer at the exact same time but still nothing. No changes in temps that are even more than a hundredth degree or two in any given couple of days. I showed it to my dr but she didn't seem to care much. And my dr just keeps telling me I'm young and not to worry about it. Then in the next breath she's telling me to wait a yr. when I remind her it's been more than that she back tracks and says two. I'm thinking maybe it's time to change drs. I'm just about out of ideas.
And I'm sorry if it came off bitchy about the natural stuff. I meant it as like I never knew anyone who tried it so I was always scared too bc I'm kind of a baby about that kind of thing. Not like I think it's a joke. Sorry if I offended anyone.
  • Would you be open to working with a midwife?  I have been working with one and she helped me figure out which herbs to use for my specific issues.  And if you are not ovulating, that could explain the lack of temp shift on your chart.  You may also consider an acupuncturist.  He/she would also be able to suggest some herbs.  I used an acupuncturist and started ovulating within two weeks of my first visit.  It's just a a little on the pricey side since it's an ongoing treatment rather than a one time thing.

If you feel like your dr isn't listening to you and you think there is something wrong, then definitely find a new dr.  But be sure to really really educate yourself so you know what questions to ask.  I will reiterate that Taking Charge of Your Fertility is probably the best tool you can find for this journey.  You can probably buy a used copy online or find it at your local library.  It was so helpful to me that I have started giving copies to my friends when they get married.

I haven't read it but would like to read the infertility cure- which focuses on it from a TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) standpoint. Although I don't think you classify as infertile yet and if you're "kind of a baby about that kind of thing" (your words not mine) then I don't think you could hack more invasive treatments like IUIs or IVF which is what a specialist will do.

There are ladies on here who shoot themselves up DAILY with IF drugs to the tune of thousands.

Edit to say "I'm sorry if this comes off bitchy" BUT I'm raging pms. We are giving you good advice. Please check out the TTGP board.

  • It had never even occurred to me to speak to a midwife about this sort of thing.  Maybe that should be my next step.  I mean, I trust my dr to take care of me in the event of an emergency but this is clearly out of her scope.  I feel like she isn't even willing to consider blood work for goodness sake. And I just found and ordered Taking charge of Your Fertility online.  also spent a good part of the last hour looking into acupuncture.  You just always her MDs tell people not to do any herbal or alternative stuff bc it can backfire and make things worse.  I mean, not about this specifically, but about other things.  Made me nervous to even attempt it.  But its certainly worth looking into.
Thanks so much for the guidance.  I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing here.  With my son I just kinda waited it out and it just took longer than expected.  Not sure why this is any different except that my cycles are SOOO irregular that its hard not to notice this time around;)

You definitely need to pick up a new thermometer ASAP, that's your first problem, your thermometer is BROKEN, your temps are NOT staying exactly the same multiple days in a row.

Eta- I second KC, try temping vaginally too, as soon as you wake up (or set an alarm so you are temping at the same time every morning)

Get a working therm, get yourself signed up for fertilityfriend.com (as mentioned above) and I bet you'll be pregnant in no time.

Don't forget to check on the informational blog over on TTGP, tons of helpful tips in there.

  • I agree with everyone here. These ladies have given you excellent advice.

Also, if you breath through your mouth while sleeping it can greatly effect temps. If you feel like your OB isn't listen then I would find a new one.

Also, when were you doing the OPKs?
