3rd Trimester

Anyone have a LEEP before pregnancy?

Hi ladies, I'm here from 1st tri. I hope it's ok posting this here. I had a leep a year ago and I'm just wondering what to expect now that I'm pregnant. I haven't talked to the doctor about it yet because he didn't think I would make it this far (I was bleeding, he said I'd miscarry). My next appointment is April 8th, so I plan to talk to him about it then. Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: Anyone have a LEEP before pregnancy?

  • I have had colposcopies and a LEEP. The doctor will just measure your cervix in advance to make sure that you have plenty left. If you don't meet whatever their minimum requirements are there are all kinds of actions that they can take to help reduce the likelihood of miscarriage. I don't know what the minimum is but my OB measured my cervix and all was fine. I am now 25 weeks and have had no issues. Can't speak to the actual birthing and laboring process but neither my OB or my midwife was particularly concerned. Just let your doctor know at your next appointment and they will measure your cervix and then let you know what if any steps are required.

  • I've had 2 LEEPs done and when I had my US they would always check and make sure my cervix was long. During my 1st tri my dr did mention a cerclage if need be but so far so good. I'm 32 weeks. My dr also mention that I may have some difficulty dialating due to the LEEPs which could possibly mean a c-section, but she said we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
  • I had a cone biopsy done after DS1 (it takes more tissue than a LEEP) and have had no issues with my cervix during my pregnancy with DS2 or this one (she is monitoring it every 2 weeks now).  I have had c-sections, so I don't know about issues with dilation, but I would just ask your OB about that.

  • I have had a leep and colpo. Like other posters. I actually had my cervix measured today. Dr said it looked good and long. But she also tries to do "shallow leep procedures" to leave as much for those who want children. She does not foresee any problems for me. So hoping she is right!

  • My sister had a LEEP done before her first baby.  She dilated on her own to around 4 cm, but then kind of stalled out.  The Dr. had to do what he called a "rough exam" to kind of push past some scar tissue.  After that she had a normal, healthy delivery.

She had no issues with delivering her second baby.

    Good luck to you!

  • I had one in between my first and second pregnancies - my MWs had to do what someone else called a "rough exam" to break through my scar tissue. After that my labor progressed really quickly.

I was never checked or had any concerns about a short cervix. The only complication that was ever brought to my attention by my then OB and my MWs was the possibility of scar tissue impacting the progress of labor. I'm about to have my 3rd and again, haven't had any issues.
  • Thanks for all the responses ladies! I hope to have an uneventful 7ish more months ahead of me!

  • I had a LEEP several years before getting pregnant, cervix was fine during pregnancy. I did have trouble dilating past 1-2cm but as soon as they stuck a foley balloon in it immediately opened to 4cm, so I'm assuming I had a little scar tissue that needed broken.
  • I'm a dude. But my fiancé had a LEEP literally 3-4 weeks(ish) prior to finding out we were pregnant. No bullshit.

Currently 39+1. Cervix always measured fine during ultrasound. Zero issues.

I don't know why, but this made me chuckle.
