Dress me: charity gala edition

I am attending a Gala Dinner for charity with some of my colleagues (my office bought a table at the event). Ideas on how to dress/style myself so I don't look out of place? Clothes, shoes, jewelry, hair, makeup - the works! (Bonus points if available in Canada). I don't have much in terms of dresses/fancy clothes so will likely have to go buy something. (or raid a friends closet if possible)

The invite says the attire is "tres chic" (the event is Parisian 'themed').

Banich4eva That dress is gorgeous!!

I'm fairly flexible with long vs short... however I am short so have always felt that I get lost in a long gown.

The less money I have to spend the better, as I am not sure the next time I will have occasion to wear whatever I buy.

I'm leaning towards a simple dress the I can perhaps use again (maybe to a wedding or other 'event')... but dress it up with fancy hair and jewelry???

I have this dress in black, I bought it for the last military ball we went to. I really liked how simple it was and that I could dress it up for the ball or dress it down for something not as fancy. It's also very flattering.

I feel waaaay less anxious about this whole gala thing now.
