AW - YAY!!!

The VP mash up I was a part of earlier this week may have been a fabulous thing for my career!

I was just asked to apply for another job with our agency that would be a promotion!  I am pretty excited about it, because it is working with our data which I absolutely love!

So, two questions, one help me pick another interview outfit and two: Do I mention DH's illness, because it has a very real impact on my working hours/ time at least once a month.

Re: AW - YAY!!!

  • Congrats! Give us some options you are comfortable with to interview in. I usually wear a suit, but that is expoected in my line of work.

I can't help you with the other thing, but there are a few hiring managers here, hopefully they will chime in.

    Kid #1 - 09/03/12
    Kid #2 - maybe???
    Diagnosed with Severe Ashermans
Hysteroscopy #10 - scar tissue grew back reblocking my right tube
#11 or IVF with scarring still inside?
1 lone embryo from September 2016 retreival, dx with Trisomy 16, starting fresh

  • Congratulations. This is so exciting because I know how taxing your current job has been on you. What kind of clothes are you comfortable in? I second the suit idea. I'd maybe suggest the suit without the jacket since it's internal. Nice dress pants with a button up shirt and some cute jewelry.

I also have no advice for your second question, but there are a few here in hiring that hopefully can help out.

  • For my last interview I wore nice dress pants, a button down shirt and a cardigan.  I was comfortable and felt that I looked nice.  I didn't know if I should go more dressed up since I already work here or not feel the need to be as formal since I know the people I am being interviewed by.

Thanks Ladies!  I am pretty excited because the group that I am interviewing with is much more laid back and I think they will understand everything I have going on personally and allow me the ability to work from somewhere other than my office if it becomes necessary.

Also congrats! And wear a professional outfit like you would for any other interview. Don't be too buddy-buddy, but not stand-offish either. Interviewing with people you know well can feel weird!
  • Congrats!!  I know how much you struggle with your current job, and hopefully this will be a great opportunity for you and your family.

I'm with @Banich4eva.  Don't bring up your personal life during the interview.  Chances are if it's an internal interview, they might already know a little bit about it.

I would also just dress professional.  Only mgmt wears suits at my job, so I don't even own one.  I'd tell you to do a button up shirt with slacks.

Do people still say slacks? ;-)

  • Ditto PPs - wait until you have a formal offer on the table to negotiate in any contingencies, like a flexible schedule to deal with medical issues.

    Good luck!

  • Does your company fall under FMLA? Having you been using that time already to deal with YHs medical issues? I'm just wondering because if necessary that should be available to you.
  • You've already gotten great advice, but i just wanted to add that it's great news Willy and I'm rooting for you!

  • @willy_gert how did it go? Did you interview today or is it later? I have it in my head that it is today though this thread doesn't say that.

  • Thanks for asking @flamingemu!  It apparently went REALLY well, because they offered me the job with a 10% raise, and I just got a 10% raise about two months ago!  So, I am VERY excited for where this will take me!   Thanks for asking!

    Awesome! When do you start?

  • Yeah congrats!!! That's so exciting! I'm so happy for you!

  • Congrats! Have you had a chance to talk flexible schedules and stuff? hopefully they're open to that!
Yes we did and they are open to it and understand my situation.  They are willing to work with me and they already allow work from home for the position.  So, it is ideal so far!

Thanks everyone!  I am pretty excited!
