Any San Francisco Moms? UCSF Experience?

Hey all! I'm a bit new to the boards and this is my first time posting here! I just found out about a week ago that we're expecting, baby due in September!

I'm curious if anyone here is from San Francisco and has worked with the UCSF Birth Center. They're at the top of our list right now, but their website is pretty confusing to me, and I would love some real-person feedback.

Thanks!

Re: Any San Francisco Moms? UCSF Experience?

  • So I haven't yet toured the facility, but I'm being followed by the midwives at the Daly City/ Serramonte satellite and plan to deliver at the birthing center at UCSF. My H and I have been very happy with the care there and the staff. We live in SF, but the Daly City office is so easy to park at and get to.

The only strange thing that I needed to 'wrap my head around' was that I don't know who may deliver my baby... It could be one of the 5 or 6 midwives OR a doc on call. It's a teaching hospital, so as I understand it, there may also be students and/or residents (an audience) when it's time... We shall see... So that's definitely something to consider...

  • So glad to hear that you've been having a good experience so far! After talking to one of my husband's co-workers who's wife just gave birth there recently, it only cemented our feeling that this would be the right place for us.

The having students/residents there thing doesn't bother me a whole lot. I'm pro supporting learning in a real life situation, so I'm happy to help, I guess?

  • I delivered my son at UCSF and will deliver this baby there too. It's a great place though my experience is a little skewed because my son was a preemie and I'm high risk for this pregnancy, so being in a tertiary care center is important to me. Are there specific things about UCSF you'd like to know? I'd be happy to provide any info I can.

  • Thanks for that info! There's nothing specific I need to know, just that people who have been there have been well cared for, comfortable, and no crazy shenanigans have been happening. Glad to hear you're going back to them again; that's always a good sign!
