Tips for giving baby medicine

anyone have any tips on giving their baby medicine successfully?  DD is teething and is extremely uncomfortable so I have been trying to get some Tylenol or Advil in her but she is excellent at gargling it for a LONG time and then spitting it all out.  We have tried giving her tiny bits slowly and sometimes that works but she still manages to spit some out.  Someone mentioned that maybe I should try a different flavor and I have heard blowing in their face makes them swallow.  Im going to tell my husband to try that today with her but its really frustrating because I want to help ease her pain and get her to sleep better but she is a stinker!  My son was so easy when it came to giving medicine so Im at a loss!  Any suggestions?  Thanks!!

  • I hold the dispenser in DDs cheek until she swallows, it definitely seems to help.

  • Stick your finger inside her mouth on the side and use it to pull her cheek out to form a pocket.  Then squirt the medicine in the corner of the pocket and blow on her face.
  • ok will try all of these!  thanks!

  • We had a hard time with the medicine pacifier...it leaked everywhere. We just throw the paci right in after small doses.
  • Put it in a bottle nipple

We fill a bottle with maybe an ounce or two of milk and mix the medicine in. That way, I know LO is getting all of it & it masks the taste.

This. My LO will projectile vomit Tylenol but will take it just fine in 2 oz of formula.

  • I shoot it into the side of her mouth in small increments. She has not had a problem yet!

  • I give my daughter Camilla, a homeopathic remedy, and I find that she actually likes the taste of it and will take it no problem. When I tried tylenol she would spit it out every single time. I feel more comfortable giving her the natural remedy as apposed to the tylenol too, which will affect her liver. Just a thought!

Um, Tylenol in appropriate doses does not harm the liver. Get your facts straight.

  • Small amounts squirted in the cheek pocket with a bottle chaser. Takes a few tries to get the timing right. Although tylenol he'll take without the chaser, just hold the syringe in his mouth, on his tongue and he starts sucking on the syringe.

  • My son (7 months) will not take meds via the syringe thing they give you with the tylenol / motrin. I end up mixing it with about an ounce of water and giving it to him in a bottle.  Worked like a charm :)  Good luck!
