I've only been living in the USA for two years and the whole health insurance thing goes way over my head - my DH deals with it all. As part of the insurance provider 'services' they have a nurse call me every month to see how I am and offer advice and I have her number to call if I am worried about anything. While it's very sweet of her, I can't help but wonder about the insurance company's motives here? I never have anything much to tell her so she tells me, every conversation, about the signs of pre-term labor as there's nothing else to say really. I would be wary to tell her anything else if issues did come up as she works for the insurance company. Am I being overly suspicious of a grand gesture by the insurers or is my lack of faith that they would be remotely interested in anything but protecting their own interests justified?

Re: Insurance company nurse
My understanding is that they are trying to make sure the doctors are taking good care of you, one of the best things to prevent high costs for them is making sure things get caught early. So yeah, they have an interest in you being healthy because it will keep their cost down, but I figure what keeps me healthy is also what is best for my babies so I don't mind!
