Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When did you start a growth chart?

Growing up my mom always kept track of our height by measuring us and making a mark on the wall.  I'd really like to start doing the same.  I feel like I'm kind of behind though.  DS is 16 months.  If you are doing some kind of growth chart, when did you start?

I ordered a cute wall decal one from Etsy. It is a flower with the numbers on the stem, and I add a leaf for each height, with the date written on it. I did 3m, 6m, 12m, 18m, and I'll do 2yrs and each birthday after that.

  • I just bought one off Amazon for $12 and will start using it on her 1st birthday.  I'll probably measure her every 6 months or so if I can get her to stand still long enough.  I'll write in her birth length too just to have it.  I made sure to get one I could remove and re-hang elsewhere in case we move - I was afraid of marking a wall and then having to leave the memory behind under a coat of paint!
  • At roughly 20 months.

  • I wanted to start on DS's birthday, but that was the day we moved into our new home, so it never happened. I figure I can go back and mark it based on his wellness check up and we're going to do it for his birthday from here on out. My family did it on a doorjamb in the house we grew up in and my mother actually took it with her when we moved. We'll also do it on the doorjamb of our house to keep the tradition.
  • We were gifted one not long after DS was born, and we started using it when he was able to stand up (8.5m).

  • I bought one off etsy before she turned one and will mark it every year. I'm going to put her height and any future childrens' height on the same chart.

  • My friend gave me one she made that looks like a wooden ruler. I like this better than on the wall because I plan on moving in the next couple years. I added his birth height and first birthday height without him standing there. You can start now with the measurements you have.

  • We have this one. It's wooden and it looks more like a piece of artwork than a typical growth chart, so we have it in our living room. We are military and move every few years, so we needed something that could come with us. There are no numbers on it, so you can hang it at whatever height you choose. We hung ours with the bottom 2 feet off the ground so she can be measured on it until she stops growing. We started measuring her against it at 18 months, and I went back and marked in all the previous heights (every 6 months) then. I just used the check up sheets we get at her pediatrician appointments to remember them.

  • Thanks for the reminder.  I forgot to order one for DDs first birthday!

This is what we are doing as well. I have the board but it has been too cold to stain it. I want to be able to use it for DS and consecutive kids. This is what it will look like when it is done.

  • I started one when my daughter was 18 months.  I have been doing it every couple of months since....18, 21, and I will do her 2 year in a couple of days!! I got an Erin Condren one...:)

  • We made one that looks similar to this one found on Etsy.  I have both kids names on it and will track both of them on the same board.  However I haven't written on it yet...but I plan on going back to when they were born.
