Have to completely revamp my diet...help!

My fiance and I, as well as his pediatrician, think that our little one is sensitive to milk. That being said, I have to revamp my diet to keep his tummy issues at bay.  I'm a little stressed, honestly, cause so many things I eat contain dairy! It's organic milk, but that doesn't matter. :/ He is supplemented with formula, but I'm probably just going to take him completely off of it and EBF.
Any other Mommas have to cut dairy out of your diet? What changes did you make? Did they work for your baby? I'm a little sad that I won't get my iced latte anymore lol

  • I am going though this too. It's very overwhelming. But so worth it to see her smiling instead of crying. My LO is also allergic to soy and from what I've read, many babies who are allergic to milk proteins are also allergic to soy proteins, so be careful with the soy lattes :) Stick with it. It's taking many weeks to see results. Also dairy is hidden everywhere it seems, so just read labels. Ritz crackers and Oreos have helped my transition. Good luck!

  • There is a weekly check-in on this group for mom's with babies with milk protein soy intolerance (mpsi).  And here's the archive of all the past check-ins: https://www.mspimoms.blogspot.com/  There is some really helpful info on there.
I've cut out milk, soy, and eggs.  Watch out for broth/bouillon.  Many contain whey.
Earth balance makes a good butter substitute that has been really helpful: https://earthbalancenatural.com/
  • Have you checked out go dairy free.org? It has recipes and a restaurant guide.

  • I've been dairy/soy free solely as a precaution (DS was hospitalized @ 9 weeks for, what they assume to be, a bad stomach virus) since January.
Oreos have saved my sanity. I do, however, eat way too many!
    mspimama.com has great recipes.
For eating out, I typically just Google search "MSPI 'restaurant name'" and usually get good options. Most fast food websites have good allergen info.
Be careful about "hidden" dairy - whey, casein, etc.
Be aware that it can take weeks for dairy to be out of your system and to see a change in LO.
I would consider cutting out soy too, then adding back in to see if it's a trigger for LO. I personally didn't cut out soybean oil or soy lechitin (most MSPI LOs are ok with these) and that opened up much more foods.
Check out the weekly MSPI check-in here.
    Lots of food label reading!

  • I sub almond milk for everything I'd use reg milk for. I also use a lot of natural/organic products that don't have dairy additives anyway. Check out nutritional yeast flakes- sounds gross but they taste like parmesean powder on food you'd usually sprinkle with cheese and you can sub them for recipes you'd normally use cheese in. They're super good for you, too.
It's hard at first but then you get used to it. It's forced me to eat even healthier.

    Good luck!
