Extended EPers?

Does anyone EP with their LO over a year? Why or why not? If not do you wish you did or are you happy with your choice and if you do how long do you plan on doing it?
Thanks!! :)

Re: Extended EPers?

  • We're planning on going until 6 months. I'd like to go longer but it really does take up a lot of time and also we want to start working on #2.

  • My original goal was 1 year but honestly Im just super excited to have made it to 6 months! (Will be wednesday) my supply is really starting to tank and make it difficult so that will factor into how long I keep it up too....still not sure.

  • @Fayga did 6 months also. I just think after a while it gets to be too much you know what I mean? It takes up so much of my life. I'd like to get out more and go to the gym, go running, take baby out to eat, that kinda thing and it's very hard to do when you pump 8 times a day. That's my thought anyway. There's a balance between giving your baby as much healthy BM as possible but also not completely giving up your life. Lots of people give up BF in general at 6 months so I don't feel bad about bailing at that point. He will have had LOTS of breastmilk and may be starting to eat some solids too.

I breastfeed one twin but the other was in the NICU for 6 weeks and has latch problems so I've mainly pumped for her. If she never is able to latch properly and her brother is still breastfeeding after 1 year, then I would probably try to keep pumping for her just because it feels more fair that they both get breast milk. Most likely I'll stop both at one year, but I'm only at 5 months, so we'll see if that changes.

  • I'm at almost 10 months of EPing and plan on keeping at it as long as I can. I've got a decent freezer stash and just started back to work PT. At this point I still pump 5x a day and my supply is still good so I see no point in stopping. Yes, it can be a bit of a PITA sometimes but at the moment it is what I feel is best for my LO so I'll keep at it.

My LO was a micropreemie so she is almost 10 months old or 6 months adjusted. I would like to EP at least until she is 1 year adjusted and would love it if I could make it until she is 18 mo adjusted. But we'll wait and see for those goals. :)
