Back Pain.. Ouch

I am having ridiculous back pain the past few weeks. And to top it off, my inner thighs/ groin have been super sore, along with the feeling that my belly and/or uterus is like 20 lbs weighing me down. It hurts to sit, it hurts to stand.. I feel like I"m falling apart and aching! I'm stretching, doing yoga, taking short walks, trying to take it easy. I don't remember feeling like this with Baby #1 two years ago.. so this pain is all new and unbearable to me. I"m complaining and venting but would love any suggestions??

Re: Back Pain.. Ouch

  • I use an extra long heating pad on my back a lot. By the end of my last pregnancy, I was alternating ice packs with the heating pad. I have also found they Tylenol helps a surprising amount with back pain, which I did not expect.

  • It feels like i wrote this post myself.i agree with pp tylenol and changing heat pad vs ice pack helps.also changing positions often helps a little.hang in there.
  • I was feeling this way recently too. After a day of increased BH (some a bit painful) I saw my doc and she suggested I get a support belt. It has been great- holds it up and supports me all around. I haven't felt the crotch soreness or backache at night since I started. May be worth a try!

  • I could barely walk all day from the low back/hip pain. I wanted to kill the MW when her only suggestions were Epsom salt baths and a support belt. I've been doing those with no relief. The heating pad does help me get some sleep most nights.

    I'm sorry you're in pain!
  • I feel the exact same way. I also never felt like this with my first, makes me scared to maybe try for a third, it's so painful. Not much advice, sorry, I have just been taking baths but I am going to look into the support belt too.

  • Heating pad=life saver.
I mentioned to my OB that things hurt so much more this time around and she said it's totally normal for 2nd+ pregnancies because everything's already stretched out.

  • I found that half an hour a day on a gym ball really helps me. Just rotating and leaning back and forth. It's also good for leaning across when you need to take the strain off your upper back.

  • I am suffering through back pain as well. I had it with my first pregnancy as well. I just made an appoinrment with a chiropractor to see if that helps at all.

I've had pretty severe back and pelvic pain since about 20 weeks. I've been following my MW's recommendations though and it's been manageable with:

    - weekly chiropractor visits
    - bi-weekly prenatal massages
    - daily stretching
    - pelvic support belt
    - liquid calcium & magnesium every night

    GL!
  • If it's upper back pain, in my experience wearing a more supportive bra helps. Those growing puppies are hard on the back!

I just switched desk chairs at work this morning in order to see if a different chair helps me.  My back pain has been upper and started out more end of day but has progressed to start earlier and earlier.  Heating pad has helped a little when I'm at home.  Been trying to avoid tylenol, caved this morning. It hurts so bad this morning, I just want to drive home and lay on my heating pad for the rest of the day.
I've been struggling with upper back pain as well. My heating pad comes to work with me or I would die. However, the main relief I have found is changing the way I sit. My work station is a laptop so I have always had the arms of my chair higher with my elbows resting on them. I messed around with the height of the chair a little bit and now let my elbows hang instead of resting on the arms. Probably going to give myself carpal tunnel or something doing that but It has given me an amazing amount of relief in the upper back dept.

  • So I started doing some spinning babies streaches and they have you do a forward-leaning adversion to let your uterus "hang" by the tendons for 30 seconds a day. It has helped with my heavy uterus feeling and a little with my back. I do their daily activities and have been feeling better!

  • Thanks for all the tips. Just ordered my heating pad and will try the other ideas. Glad to know I'm not alone!

  • I've had a lot of back pain that's not really fixable with positioning (as I need to stay lying/sitting for bed rest) and so far my life savers are, in no particular order: 1) having DH help me twist and stretch my arms and spine. It's gentle and really takes away some of the stagnant feeling. 2) Tylenol. So long as the ache is generalized and not caused by pulling something or otherwise doing actual damage- it helps quite a lot. 3) Bra changes. I like mine tight around the band but I've had to move to he loosest setting or my ribs ache- remember baby is shifting things around in there. I've also had to start wearing a sports bra to sleep in or I get horrible upper back pain.

  • if you can find one convenient for you, try pre-natal swim classes. the water aerobics have been a life saver for me.
  • I second @hhegyesi‌ . Anything in the water helps me immensely. If I go swim a couple laps, stretch, and do some water jogging I am in heaven for the next 2 days. I sleep better when I swim regularly too.
