For those getting progesterone injections

Are you having them done at the doc's, or somewhere else?  My doc's office said they're setting up something with a home care unit so they can come to my house to give me the shots?  Apparently they don't do it in the office.  That seemed a bit strange to me?  I didn't know if that was the norm. 

I'm wondering if they can just show DH how to do them?

    I have heard them being done both ways. I think my Dr. mentioned I would just come into the office weekly if/when we start them.

    Hmm I don't know if it's in oil?  It's the Makena shot.  I'd kinda like it if they could just show DH how to do it.  I'm sure he'd be fine, and that would be a lot simpler.

    Yeah I'm going to ask them.  The whole thing sounds a bit crazy, having someone come to the house?  I called insurance yesterday to check the pricing on the Makena shots and about hyperventilated when they told me what it cost to fill it at the drugstore.  It's very reasonable if I get it filled through my insurance company or through the manufacturer, I guess, but if I try to do it through CVS they said it costs $4k/month?  WTF?  I'm hoping the guy was wrong because that's just crazy.  Through insurance it's like $30/month.  wtf.

    I'm spazzing about this generally.

    Initially it was priced at $1,500 per dose?  Which needs to be administered weekly starting at 16 weeks and until delivery... Um, yeah.  LOL.  It's not sold at that price now, though.

    We use CVS because of our prescription coverage. They also quoted me $4k/month. My medical coverage said they would cover it but I have to go in every week and pay a $50 co-pay each week.

    I should know more tomorrow afternoon and will report back. Hoping my OB has something up his sleeve.

    And the plan was for me to self administer them.

    I have to self administer. I was freaked out until my nurse brother offered to do them for me. I know, I'm a wimp.

    @MeNV, I'm hoping they let me self administer too.  That just seems simpler.

    I am currently having them done in the Dr.'s office (which unfortunately is a little far). They said my husband can come in and be trained how to do it if we want although he hasn't had time to go. I got the feeling that the Dr. would prefer himself or the nurse doing it.

    I am also not using the brand name drug Makena through our CVS RX coverage...I had heard it would be thousands of $$...my Dr. uses a special compounding pharmacy that is making it for me and delivers it the the Dr. office...it is partially covered by insurance and my cost is $45 for 5 doses!

    I had the 17p progesterone shots with my last pregnancy - and they were done in the doc's office. My first specialist appt will be end of the week - but I anticipate ending up on them within a month.

    Ouch LOL.  Looks like I start mine Thursday or Friday.  Hopefully no nerves will be hit LOL.

    For those on Makena hell, my doctor called Makena and they are actually doing the leg work for me to be able to get it! They have sent me OB a vial that will last me 5 weeks until this is figured out. (For free!)

    TTM, that's good.  My doc went through Makena too and they were pretty helpful in that they guided them through the process.  A Makena rep called yesterday, actually, to make sure I had the info I needed to set up home care, so that was nice.  But once I got a hold of the right people at my insurance company, they sorted me out pretty quickly.  It was just a matter of figuring out who to call.

    I should get my stuff today, they overnight the prescriptions.

    Got all my stuff, and was pleasantly surprised - I thought my copay was a little high, but they sent me 2 vials instead of 1, plus syringes and needles and a sharps container.  I'm all set lol.

    Ah thanks ladies. I honestly didn't know and figured getting info from real people would be better and seeing 80000 reasons good luck with those of you that need this treatment!
