Trouble at 4.5 months

I've been nursing my twins for 4.5 months, but lately it seems like one of them is struggling. He often acts like he's STARVING and is too distraught to wait for a letdown (even though he never goes more than 2 hours without eating, max) ... I know it might be a growth spurt but it just seems different to me, and has been going on for a good week. Other times he nurses a bit and then acts upset, almost like he wants a second letdown--but then he spits up a good tablespoon or two and is done nursing, and after that he's fine for a while.

Those two things might not even be related ... I guess I just worry that there's some underlying issue with his little belly. (I'm also paranoid that my body can't keep up with these guys any more ... I am counting down the weeks until solids just so that the whole burden isn't on me!)

Re: Trouble at 4.5 months

  • 4.5 months was also when DD started being totally distracted and "off" while nursing, AND started teething (didn't actually get teeth until the past few weeks...5 months later...). Simultaneously, she also got much, much faster at nursing, such that she rarely takes more than 5 minutes these days (except right before bed). Right around that time was a lot of changes for us, nursing-wise, though.

How are his diapers? Still the same amount of wet/dirty?

  • I am going through something similar with one of my twins and they are 4.5 months too.  He stays on for a few minutes and then starts to get upset/wiggly/whinny.  He keeps his latch but jerks his head so fast...I keep thinking he's going to rip my nipple off :)  He acts like he wants more so I put him back and he takes maybe two sucks and starts over again.  It's SO frustrating.  I wish I had advice for you but I guess I just wanted to say you're not alone.  It seems like this is a tough age.  You're doing great, hang in there!  (and let me know what ends up working for you!)
