How many onesies?

Coworker was telling me I need to register for more onesies. Uhhhhh, I put 2 packs on there. I already bought some. I know kids go through a lot of clothing changes... Oh and she told me I can't take the kid out of the house in a onesie (What?)? I'm thinking onesie and pants are appropriate. So I'm FTM confused. I also don't want to register for clothes because I figure people will get me clothes no matter what. MIL has that down.

Re: How many onesies?

  • Young babies can definitely go out in just onesies...maybe with shorts or pants. Especially if you live in a hot climate. How many are in the packs you registered for? It really depends on how often you do laundry and if your kid has a lot of blow-outs/spit ups. It's like like you have to have every single item before baby arrives either. If you need more after he/she is born, then amazon prime is your BFF (or go shopping...yes, you can leave the house with a baby ;) )

  • It gets hotter than a witch tit in July/Aug around here, baby will def be in just a onesie plenty of times!

How many are in a pack? That should be plenty for now - if you find yourself doing too much laundry, you'll know to grab some more.

I wouldn't register for any clothes either - I know I'm not, because I have a feeling that we will get plenty once baby is born. We are Team Green, and I know family will want to get blue or pink stuff then.

  • 3 to each pack, plus we have a pack of them. She was all "YOU NEED TONS OF ONESIES"

I have a washing machine. I can do laundry.

  • We did laundry enough that we didn't need a bunch. I'd say 2 packs is fine. I only plan on having them for warm weather because I don't like them tucked into pants and it's one more step to get to the diaper. That's just me though. I thought I would love them and don't.

That being said, I think it's totally fine for babies to wear just a onesie, especially in the heat.
  • I put white onesies on DS like undershirts. So under every outfit. We had a crap ton of them for each size as he grew. I guess it is how you use them.

  • We layered onesies under everything in the beginning so we had a ton. But DS was a spring baby, I'm guessing we'll be layering a lot less in 100 degree weather this summer!

  • We used them as undershirts with DD and will with this baby once it gets cool. I like to have at least 12 in nb and 0-3, expecting at least 3 outfit changes in 24 hours between bodily fluids and what not. That way I only had to do wash every 3 or 4 days.

  • Even if you don't register for onesies, it's a gift that people like to buy for new mom's and you'll probably end up with more than you need. My MIL was crazy with all the "oh you don't have enough on your registry!" Even after my shower, was so spoiled by family and got tons of stuff, and MIL says "you still don't have enough..." I think there are just some people who enjoy pushing panic and lack on others. Onesies and pants are fine to go out in also and alone in the hot summer.
  • i used to work a babies r us back in the day, at the registry.. it is really hard to register for clothing.. they switch their clothes out so fast that by the time your gift givers attempt to buy some of the clothes on your registry.. they are either out of season or just switched out by that time.. plain packaged onesies should be ok because they are always there.. but just a heads up about other clothes :)

  • Maybe she means in a variety of sizes? I have a stash started in a range of sizes starting at preemie just in case.
I'm team "whatever makes my life easier" and it seems like a onesie with a small blanket handy if the AC is chilly will suffice in most day to day situations during the first few months of a summer babies life.
  • We have way too many already...like 25+ in 3m size. We always had a lot in each size for the boys, though, too. My kids tend to go through multiple outfits a day for at least the first 6-9 months.

DD had reflux and spit up a lot, so we had to change her clothes at least a couple times a day. We had a ton of onesies and used every single one of them, but I also hate laundry and only usually do it once, maybe twice a week.
  • I didn't put a lot of clothes on my registry for DS, but still got tons at my shower.  I don't really feel like I need to do any clothes shopping for the first year for my boy twins coming this summer if that tells you anything.  And, I had DS spit up all the time.  I changed him 4-6 times a day probably.

  • For each size I would say we have around 10. We don't have a washing machine. So it's a PITA to do laundry so I only go 1-2x/wk.

But on top of onesies we have jumpers, dresses, etc. I also think we have an excess amount of clothes. All DDs hand me downs plus new stuff for her.
  • I really wouldn't worry about it, I didn't register for any clothes and I received TONS of clothes. I do love me some onesies though.

  • We went through a ton of onesies per week. Diaper explosions, spit up... You name it. I like the zipper onesies. So much easier to deal with during all the diaper changes over snaps. But it's true... You don't necessarily need to register for them. Ppl will get them for you regardless, and anything you add now May or may not be available in June/July...

  • We used onesies under ever single outfit until DD was about 18 months old. I will do the same this time, so I need a ton. Also, with working and have little kids, my rule for laundry is once a week. So, I buy enough onesies, burp cloths and pjs to make it an entire week.

I have about 12 newborn now and about 18 0-3. I also do not buy regular onesies for the newborn stage. I HATED putting stuff over DDs head as a FTM. I only bought the side snap t-shirts. Gerber makes them too.
