Breast Pump

Hey ladies, I am getting ready to purchase a new breast pump.  With previous pgs, I used the Medela Pump in Style.  Is this still a good one?  Insurance will cover most of it, so I am open to anything not hospital grade... I need an electric one/battery one, as I will be pumping at work.  Any suggestions would be amazing!

Re: Breast Pump

  • I just bought an Ameda double electric pump. I had a lot of mom's recommend it. What sold me on it was that it's a closed system.

  • My insurance sent me the Ameda Purely Yours double electric pump. Haven't used it yet but it seems like it'll get the job done, and I've heard good things about it.
  • This question has been asked a lot - when I was trying to figure out which one I wanted I found that searching previous threads was great. Also try searching the March and February boards since those ladies have already used their pumps. Good luck! I was having heart flutters when I went to order. I personally ended up going with Medela because of their great customer service and easy access to parts.

  • I have not figured out which one I am getting yet but did want to mirror the sentiment that you shoudl check with your insurance...I just learned that they will cover 100% of my breastpump, which is fantastic news. And if I choose one that is more expensive than what they provide, I can just pay the difference.

Yes, my insurance will cover 90% of any non hospital grade pump (Yea!!)  So I can basically buy anything on the market.  Thanks for the advice to search...

My insurance said it has to be ordered from a medical supply and not like target.

You may want to check that.

Mine is covered 80% under 1000

My insurance will cover 100% either through medical supply or 90% of one I buy at a store as long as it is not hospital grade.  So I'm good to either buy one or to go through medical supply depending on what pump I want.
  • I went with the Medela "in style" since this is one of the options that my insurance covered at 100%. The only thing I paid for was the shipping. I opted for this one because the lactation consultant at my OB clinic recommended it and if I have any trouble with it she can help me out. I am sure that the others are great too.
  • I have Cigna Insurance & had to go through their medical service provider, Care Centrix, to order mine. It was 100% covered - they send what is in stock. I just got mine in the mail yesterday (faxed my prescription from my OB last Friday). I received the Ameda Purely Yours double electric pump. FTM & no experience with pumps yet, but it looks like it will get the job done.
