Still pregnant and trying to be Zen not miserable. Anyone else? Come in!

Re: Still pregnant and trying to be Zen not miserable. Anyone else? Come in!

  • Finally put in a call to my OB's office because Mia isn't moving around as much as she normally does, on top of still having some blood when I wipe. It's not bright red anymore, but it's more than the little bit of spotting my doc said was okay. I'm a little worried now, on top of being exhausted.
Are they having you come in?  Please keep us updated.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.

I am continuing my Harry potter marathon and keeping my fingers crossed for all of you ladies!

  • @pepperedmoth I got goosebumps when I read that you're feeling some contractions!! I'm totally getting a burger this week!!
I agree it's hard to keep up with the thread today and I love it!
@mndynitetragdy‌ I am also GBS + and having anxiety about getting the antibiotics in in enough time. There's a couple of us.
WHY did I say I would work til the end?? I could crawl out of my skin I don't want to be here so bad. I know I'd probably just drive myself crazy at home though. There's no happy medium! My reflux is bad which makes me upset that baby maybe hasn't dropped.

  • @AnonymousMotherOfOne‌ def keep us updated! I get worried when LO doesn't move as much, too. Glad you called for sure.

@knittinlins‌ where in the Harry Potter saga are you? That is QUITE the marathon! Maybe Voldemort will trigger some cx in you, too.

@Sanibel21‌ my current working theory on food inductions is that it has to be something you don't eat very often that tends to set off GI upset that in turn sets off cx (like the way castor oil works). Spicy food won't do it for me as I eat spicy food all the time. The burger maaaaaaaay have tipped me over since I almost never eat burgers (like half a dozen times a year MAX --- maybe fewer) and when I do it is REALLY almost never in a restaurant where they are heavier and greasier than we'd make at home.

Or, yanno, I could just be having GI upset from the greasy burger. Hard to know! Oh andplusalso to reassure you, I happen to KNOW baby is engaged in my pelvis and I'm still having reflux, so there's that. :-)

@SomersIsles‌ I didn't want to answer this in the other thread cuz I have no idea whether what I'm feeling is going to lead to a baby or not, but last night my belly got rock-hard like a Braxton-Hicks except it HURT, a sharp pain wrapping around my front like a nasty gas or diarrheal pain.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • He wants to do a NST; they've got me gowned up and registered, just in case. There's more blood than there was before when they had me pee in that stupid little cup I couldn't even see past my belly, and now my CX feel more like cramps than CX.

Gais. Holy fuck I'm scared. And sleepy. Mostly sleepy.

  • Zen gone.  All Zen gone.

DH has the flu.  Again.  Same strain.

I am on hold with the OB to find out how we handle this.  He's going into quarantine and will not come near me for five days, obviously.   But right now, I can't even keep the house going.  What happens if I go into labor??  Can he even be in the delivery room?

I'm going to go ugly cry now.

  • After some sleep I've decided that the reason I was so upset yesterday is because I feel like I've lost all say in how this birth is going to proceed. Today I'm going to research my options for induction methods and let my doctor know my preferences so that I can still go as med free as possible. I'm also going to open up the breast pump and give that a try. I don't know if any of it will help, but it will help me feel better.

Good luck to everyone who is contracting!

  • Mia looks good, according to my doc. "Sick babies don't have accelerations" is apparently good news. Doc did a check, and I'm only 2cm, and the blood isn't too worrisome if his bedside manner is anything to go by. I'm so tired I'm having trouble thinking properly though, so I might be missing something.

He's going to do another check in a couple of hours, so I'll be here in L&D all day. Joy. Oh, and because you're all dying to know, I'm 2cm with very little effacement. He didn't give me a number.

  • @saisongbird‌ I'm so sorry your H is sick! I know it's easier said than done, but try not to stress too much. Especially about the house...in the words of Elsa "let it go".....lol!!!

I think I've finally started having a few "real" contractions. They're nowhere near regular though so it could just be wishful thinking. I have this feeling though that she'll come tomorrow...

I can't wait to get home and lay down. I am seriously wiped out.

  • L&D is very boring when nothing is really happening. Every time I try to fall asleep, something happens to wake me up. OB came in once, nurse came in a couple times, had a very painful CX that woke me just as I was about to really pass out, and now I just can't bother trying anymore.

Staying pretty zen through it all, I like to think. Haven't cried yet today, Mia still looks and sounds good (I can hear her HB from the monitor) and she's moving a lot more now than she was this morning. FX these CX keep getting stronger though. I'm so ready to be done, even if I'm exhausted and terrified of giving birth. .____.

PIP is the oh-so-lovely view from my room. Yay for bricks.

Trying to find some zen in my stitching.

  • The drive-by birth announcements are not helping my Zen.  I definitely do NOT recognize some of these names!
I don't mind them because I like the different stories of how labor goes. It usually gives me confidence that I can do this. But it is frustrating to be past due & see people not as far along delivering. Kind of a "why do they get their baby now & I don't" feeling.
I'm not past due yet, but I totally read them (and say congrats) because I'm nosy and I think people just want to have other people at least pretend to be excited for them.

Did we ever hear from @lnvane00‌ ?? So Sunday am I started having contractions but ignoring them because they were not painful and about 15-20 min apart. We walked a mike to brunch and by the time we came back I was thinking this could be it. After two to three hours of contractions getting steadier and steadier and me clinging onto hope they're real, the contractions stopped for 30 min. When they returned they were 4-5 nj apart. Called doc and he said to head innocent they were 4-1-1. On the way to hospital contractions were 2-3 min apart. I got to hospital and upon exam was 5cm and 90^. Labored in room for 2.5 hours waiting for doc. 6 cm. was depressed. Labored for 1.5 hours more. Was an 8. Transition sucked. Then I spent 2 hours at an 8 and nothing. At that point doc said he didn't think she would turn vaginally because of her head size and because of her position (sunny side up). He wanted me to try a new position but transition gives you the shakes so there was no way I could lay still with my legs all twisted. I birthed primarily on the ball or the stool. So I made the choice to go epidural. Try and lay there for another 2 hours and see if she turned to avoid a c section. After two hours she had turned her head worse. The doc was willing to let me wait but told me straight up we would end in a section because of her head and positioning. She never engaged past -1/0 position. We decided to go c section. I cried. I was so disappointed. Mainly because I could have done it. I should have been a 10 super quick given how fast labor progressed. Got to hospital at 4 pm at a 5 and was an 8 by say 9 pm The section was intense. I will see try vbac next time. Recovery has been a biotch but Blair is feeding well. Loads of tests in hospital though. Wish there were none. Good luck ladies. With good nurses and breathing you can do this!!!

So sorry your labor wasn't what you were hoping for, but YA that Blair is here! (Also, sorry that I'm catching up so late and missed this until now). I'm sure everyone else has already said all this, but it's ok to be disappointed but be happy with the fact that you did everything you could and you can't control everything. Keep taking care of yourself and hopefully recovery will ease up for you.

Good luck @AnonymousMotherOfOne‌ ! I swear third tri is so miserable so you avoid worrying about birth. My nose is so congested I can't sleep. My hands and arms were tingly and sore all night (? carpal tunnel). I just pulled into work which is the last place I want to be. But I'm hoping the constant moving will help. And pass the time. I just want to be done being pregnant! I will look for my zen in my cup of raspberry tea. Have a good day everyone!
THIS! It's nice to know that I'm not alone (even though I'm sorry that you're suffering too). My nose has been a mess for what feels like forever and it makes sleep so difficult (not to mention the constant peeing). Plus I hate working now :) Hope you've found your zen. I'm going to go make my tea now thanks to your reminder. Hopefully with us being due on the same day we'll get some action at the same time...I'm now patiently waiting for you to go into labor.

  • @saisongbird‌ I'm so sorry your H is sick again. I would try to stay calm (if you can) ad not worry too much about the house. Everything will still be there when your H is better and can help. Don't think about going into labor while he is sick - cross that bridge when you get to it, that way you aren't worrying if its not necessary (so much easier said than done, I know). Sending you lots of hugs!
This. Stressing won't help (even though it's damn near impossible not to), but it super sucks that he's sick again. Deep breaths and something sweet or comfort foody maybe?
  • Random question as I'm looking at induction tomorrow night...I came across this article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1595289/

Can you really say "no" to an induction if there's no medical reason other than "you're 41 weeks, it's time."?  I've never heard of anyone refusing it based on their OBs policies.

@scooter028 - In theory, yes.  What are they going to do?  Come to your house, drag you to the hospital and induce you?  I've seen some people on the board really up in arms about this...."you can refuse!  They can't make you!"

Though I do wonder if your OB could discontinue your care and you'd just be the pregnant lady at the hospital whenever labor did start.  I don't know if they could "disown" you as a patient.

Have you tried to push back on your induction?  What was the conversation like when it got scheduled?

I choose to look at it more like I am with this OB because I like him and trust him.  I do think induction at X weeks/days is a dumb policy - look at the pregnancy not the calendar.  Or maybe I'm just lucky that he hasn't pushed anything that I've been against yet.  Last time I was going to get induced at 11 days overdue but at that point I agreed (and my water broke the night before so it ended up being moot).  This time I'm hoping for a VBAC and we are going week by week.  I'm worried as I pass my due date we'll have to schedule an RCS, but similar to if I was scheduling an induction, I haven't felt a hard deadline - you WILL have an RCS by this date!  So we'll see...  It is a hard conversation because I trust his medical training/opinion but I also want to be comfortable with the decision, too.

    Good luck!

I think you're right on with that cross-stitch project. Have you made it to the comforting stitching section, or are you still stuck on annoying outlining?

  • @pepperedmoth - thanks.  I finished the annoying satin stitches and am up to the cross stitching.  It's definitely helping.  Trying to regain some of my zen there.  I actually don't mind the outlining (back stitching, stem stitching) - but the satin stitches are annoying.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with nasal congestion! It has been driving me crazy for months and my doc says it's from the extra blood supply. But I don't hear many people here complaining about it so I was worried it's not a pregnancy-related thing and I'm gonna have it forever!
Glad I could remind you about tea! Hope you enjoyed!

    Good luck!

Overall, yes, this is my fault as I never asked what their induction policy was prior to switching to this OB a few months into the pregnancy.  Our initial meeting focused on going pain med free and I was happy to get their blessing and at the time wasn't sure what else to go over.  I also just assumed then that everyone would allow you to go to 42 weeks.  With my long cycles, I also didn't push for my EDD of the 19th-21st rather than the 16th as calculated by LMP at my initial appointments.  So those things are lessons learned on my part.

I did push back a bit on the induction date which is why they're "allowing" me to go Wed. They wanted me in on Sunday night based on the calculated 16th EDD and their 41 week rule.  So I guess I'm lucky that I even got these extra few days.  When it was discussed again yesterday, they said yes, the the baby looks good on the tests but the risk of stillbirth and other problems is increasing now at 41 weeks and "it's time" so we want you in on Wednesday night.

I'm just disapointed in the situation as I never envisioned I'd be induced and did everything I could think of to avoid it along the way (acupuncture, yoga since 2nd tri, RRLT, EPO, sex, nipple stim, massage, chiro since 32 weeks, etc).  Anyway, just venting about it I guess.  Hopefully I go into labor tonight out of the blue and I know for next time what I'm really looking for with a provider. I guess I never thought DH and I were this crunchy until getting KU! He might be more bummed than I am about the possible induction.

Yeah, actually how late they'd let me go wasn't a question I thought to ask when I started either.  And it is hard to push back against these things late in the game.  :(  And it sucks that you think your dates are slightly off and you could have bought more time.....but....the waiting at the end is a difficult compromise.  While the odds of things going wrong while waiting for your body to know what to do are low, there ARE risks and it's hard to find the right balance.

As I said, my water broke the night before my induction so I will send you lots of good labor starting vibes!

And if nothing else, hopefully your body will be favorable to the induction and the rest of your birth can go as you planned!  Good luck, momma!
