Pregnant after 35

I caved and bought an outfit

I am expecting a girl and we all know what that can entail as far as shopping goes. I have been holding off on buying anything for as long as I can because I know once you start it may be hard to stop. lol So I made it to week 17 and caved and bought a cute outfit tonight. Anyone else shopping ahead or are you waiting to see what you get? I will add this is my 2nd so I am not having a shower, although this is my first girl, so I am sure I will get some cute outfits or gifts.

  • I am 27 weeks having a girl.  I have not bought much of anything, I did buy a rocking horse used from someone at work and have had a lot of stuff given to me.  I was too nervous to buy anything since we had a mmc last year.

My mom and step dad bought the crib and dresser and it came so they are setting it up for me tomorrow, that is the biggest gift thing that was purchased.  I am waiting to really buy anything still.

We're having a boy and we're drowning in clothes!  Everyone has been so generous, but it seems like we have more than we need.  I have a niece that is expecting a boy a few months after ours so I'll be able to pass things along at least.

Sorry to hear that. I worry about that sometimes too. I can see why some cultures/religions wait to give gifts after the baby's arrival, although it is so fun to have stuff ahead of time too.

i hope so..! i have a few people who said they would be able to give me some stuff. but i don't really have any friends or family around me, so i don't even think i will be getting a baby shower.

i plan to try and make as much clothing as i can... my sewing machine is pretty much my BFF these days.. :)

  • oh that's great that you sew.  Not sure where you live but many states have huge consignment sales in the spring and fall with items priced as low as $2-3. I have gotten name brand items or clothes with tags still on them at these events. I also go to children's consignment shops and get great finds!

  • My daughter picked out an outfit when I was only 3w5d. It's gender neutral. And if I MC, well, we can use it as a gift for someone else?

I live outside Boston.. we have a few thrift shops and I have priced out some stuff.. The baby clothes are like $1 and up so I can definitely see a few splurges in my near future..!

I have started to sell some of my old clothes on eBay to make some $ to buy baby fabric.. I have been getting pretty good at making the diaper covers and was thinking i might even open a little online shop to sell some.. Any income helps as we are so far a one-income family..!

  • I was waiting until after the 20-week u/s to buy anything, so I am getting ready to start shopping now. Mostly, I just want the empty bedroom to start feeling like a nursery.

My sister gave me a box of old bibs, and I have those sitting out for now. Something about that makes me feel good. (There's one with a quilted turtle on it that really makes me smile.)

I also have the baby blanket my grandma crocheted for me when I was a baby.

I love this. I am hoping to learn how to sew a little better so I can do the same thing. I finally set up my grandmother's sewing machine, so it's ready and waiting for me to give it a go. :)

If your avatar and ticker are any indication of your style, I think you could make a killing selling non-traditional baby clothes online. I know I'd be all over things that aren't pastels and that have a little edge. :)

All of this!  I had my mom's sewing machine and could basically sew rips back together but that's it. I'm hoping to get a new basic machine and do some relatively easy things like basic pillow covers.

And agree with @2redtuplips, @jessydrastic, if this is a girl, I don't want to her to be all pink. a little of it will be fine, but I love the snarky kid outfits and non traditional stuff.

On your original note, yes, we have a couple onesies and a pair of shoes the kid will probably never wear, but other than that I don't have any clothes. And the onesies are of bands that we like, so boy or girl, it'll be wearing blue.

I broke down and bought 4 pocket diapers (CD) this week to start our "stash"

Polka dots in Easton, there's also Merry Go Round in Easton but I like PD. There's some in the Pembroke area. Finders Keepers in Quincy(not as nice but can find things). There's big consignment events coming up in April and May through "Children's Clothesline" and "There they Grow Again"

Do you know the names of the ones in Pembroke..? We live in Hingham, so we go to places like Norwell and Hanover pretty often.. (gotta hit the Joann's fabrics at least once a month... and the Salvation Army..!)

The Quincy one sounds like a good one to check out too....

  • Those diaper covers are awesome!

I sewed several pairs of bloomer-type pants, which was easy and fun.  I did not buy much other than a Star Wars bib, since SO is a big fan, and a couple cute pairs of jammies. :)   My mom went a little nuts shopping (it's her first granddaughter), as I knew she would, and a few other people gave me clothes.
  • My kid has enough clothes to wear something new each day for months practically. First and probably only grandchild for both sides of the family so the family is going crazy buying stuff. And of course I have to pick out what I like, too, so we have way too much. It is out of control.
