Moving to own room

DD was 8 months old on the 12th and she is still in her crib in our room. She hasn't STTN since 4 months and that was when she was in the PnP. I guess the 4 month sleep regression just hung around. She generally sleeps in 1.5-2 hours stretches and wants to nurse when she wakes up. She will eat and go right back to sleep.
For those who have moved LO to their own room, did you notice a big difference right away? Or should we wait until after the 9 month growth spurt to move her? Thanks!

Re: Moving to own room

  • We moved L to her own room when she was 6 months, and she immediately slept better. I think we (DH, the dog, the cat, and/or I) were waking her up a lot.

We did naps in there first so she could get used to it, and also introduced a lovey that smelled like me so she would always have that with her.

    Good luck!

  • We moved LO in her own room fairly early on at 5 weeks. But yes, there was definitely a difference. I think we were waking each other up when she slept in our room. She began sleeping longer stretches when she was moved in her room. This isn't to give you false hope, though. Just our experience. I say give it a go and see how it works out. Good luck!

Yes. It was an immediate change for us. We moved DD last month. Before that, I was up 2 ttimes on a good night and up to 8-10 on a bad one.

The first night in her room she was up twice. The second night once. Now the average is once or STTN. When she wakes up, I go in and feed and she goes right back to sleep.

This makes me so happy for you and R!!

Mine never woke up 8-10 times, but I definitely noticed a difference when I moved him to his own crib.

When we were in the same room, I would usually feed him as soon as I heard him stir so we could both get back to sleep quickly. Now when he wakes up, I usually try to give him a few minutes to settle.

I'm not sure how close your baby's room is, but i can hear James without the monitor so I started turning the sound off completely. Now I don't hear him until he's really complaining. I've woken up in the middle of the night to the monitor lighting up for an couple minutes. I'm glad we aren't in the same room because in those instances we definitely would be getting up.

Good luck! Hope you get more sleep soon. I would die!!
  • We transitioned at 8 weeks. It went just fine :) hope it goes well for you too!

  • Dd will NOT sleep when she is in same room as US even though I am not nursing any more but when she has her own room she will sttn.
  • I'm going to be attempting the transition tonight with Adeline so most of these comments are making me really hopeful!  DH snores really loudly and I think it wakes DD up.  She's in a co-sleeper right next to the bed or in bed with us and I think I am too quick to stick a boob in her mouth when she wakes up because I don't want to let her fuss right next to me at 4am.

    Good luck to you!!

  • Both Corri and Gavin went from the hospital to their own rooms, and I have never had any big sleep issues with either kid (minus a few random "teething and pissed off" nights). I can tell you that there is no way in hell either kid would get any sleep in my room with DH's loud ass snoring, lol!

I'll go ahead and be the voice of dissent here, I guess... Sorry to rain on the parade! We moved Sebastian to his own room on Sunday, so only two nights so far. But since you asked if there was an immediate improvement, I feel like two nights is enough experience to qualify. Both nights he woke every hour or two all night, just like he did in our room. Maybe it'll get better over the next few days... If not, we're going to move him back. No sense trudging up and down the hall all night if there isn't any improvement! (He'll be nine months Friday.)
This is us too. DS has been sleeping in his crib since 6 months, but we've not really seen any great improvement. When he slept in our room he'd wake up 2-3 times a night. He's been in his crib for 2 months and he still wakes up 2 times per night.
  • Thanks for the replies. It sounds like the move helped most of your LOs. I will let you know what we decide.
  • We moved LO to her nursery and crib from the pnp in our room at 16 weeks. She had the same sleep patterns as before the move once she was in the crib. It's been an ever changing pattern since. (Or no pattern at all, really.)
  • We moved E at 5 weeks. Both of my kids slept much better on their own. I usually nap with E and notice that the slightest flutter I make, wakes him up. I'm thinking that maybe for nap time he needs to nap by himself so we can both nap better. :)
  • i cried when i moved her around 5 months but i knew i was waking her up sometimes because i always get up to pee a few times at night. she definitely sleeps better now (most of the time anyways) and we saw an improvement very quickly!
