  • Um, definitely not the same as blackface. And anyone who thinks it is obviously doesn't know why blackface is offensive.

  • Black face isn't offensive guise, black people just need to choose to not be offended.

    No seriously.

    ....................................

I agree with you to an extent. When I saw someone do it as a costume and in no way meant to offend anyone I don't see a problem.

While I know Nick is joking I find the hashtags and the fact that he supposedly named his album white people party music. I'm sure I'm wrong though.

  • This doesn't bother me but Dave Chappelle did it better.
Yep.  Nick cannon is one of the most unoriginal asshats there is.
  • I have my flame resistant suit at the ready, guise.  I absolutely understand the history of blackface.  But are black people genuinely offended if someone who is not black wishes to emulate them for Halloween or something in a totally non-offensive way?  I guess I honestly don't understand why intent and context doesn't apply but maybe there's a real reason why it doesn't that I don't understand.

Yes to me it is very offensive. To see somebody paint their face a dark skin tone is not funny and it is a horrible way of making fun of black people.  I find all painted faces offensive being it black, white, or tan.  Their is a lack of respect for ones cultural and the negative stereotypes that stand behind the painting of ones face, especially in a derogatory way. When it was done back in the day it was done where white people wore torn clothing's, had the illusion of big lips, and held a watermelon.
At Halloween what would be the reason to paint your face black? In what way would that be positive?
Nick Cannon should be ashamed of himself and the negative image that he is trying to portray of white people, just like the news anchor stated please leave the comedy to real comedians.

I understand the offense in that context.  My question is more - a kid wants to dress up like the President.  For no other reason than he thinks he's cool.  There is no mocking or making fun involved in the decision.  That kid can buy and wear an Obama mask but if he were to paint his face and put on a wig, that would be offensive.  But if you look at the intent, it is literally the same and I don't understand why one is ok and the other is not solely because in the past, doing so was intended to be offensive.  This child's intent is not the same as the historical action.  Know what I'm saying?

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Poor Nick Cannon can only get press because of his wife and his white face.

But, this has been blowing up on my facebook, people need to calm down.
