Re: ~*Born to Run Junebugs Check-in*~

  • Had a pretty good week!

    Mon- 30 min strength
    Tue- 60 min cardio
    Wed- 45 min walk
    Thursday-OFF
    Friday- 50 min cardio/strength
    Sat- 40 min dog walk
    Sun- 60 min swim

THE GOOD: got back into the pool with some goggles!

THE BAD:  I got a hold of girl scout cookies

GOALS FOR THIS WEEK:  Work out Mon-Thursday.  We are going to the beach this weekend and the most I will be doing is walks!

  • I was on vacation in Florida all last week so, um, I slacked big time. I ran once while in FL but it is too freaking hot + wild dogs everywhere + alligators... yeah, just wasn't happening. ;) If jumping around in the pool/ocean and walking on the beach counts, I guess I got a little cardio in here and there.

Yesterday, hubs and I spent a few hours raking leaves which totally wiped me out.

Aaand that's about it. Back on track this week, though!

GOALS FOR THIS WEEK: 3-4 run days + 1 yoga day. I don't care about my distance at this point... things are getting pretty uncomfortable and any run is a good run in my book. I am looking forward to running on feel rather than a specific pace/distance goal.

  • My runs: so much better! I ran 4 times for 11 miles total. I'm still able to run (sloooowly) without walking/potty breaks which is exciting. I also lifted a little, and took a short walk or 2 as well.

The good: I felt great, got my Gabrialla band, and overall feel pretty good.

The bad: I had a "growth spurt" and gained like 4 lbs in a day... It hasnt evened out. I really love food.... I ate an entire bag of sweet tart jelly beans in like 2 days. I passed my glucose test last week tho, so I tell myself it's ok.

Goals: run 3-4 times, start some hip opening/strengthening yoga, and run the 5k on Saturday, no time but definitely just run the whole time.
  • hey ladies!  again, so proud we are all continuing to exercise.  i really think it has made me feel so much better throughout my pregnancy including mentally and sleeping!
some things i learned this week, let me know if you all agree:
    1. it takes me MUCH longer to warm up during a run. i don't start to settle in until at least 2 miles while i usually start to feel good after 1
    2. keep it consistent!  i tried to run at night this week when i always run in the mornings. before pregnancy this wouldn't be a big deal.  huge deal now!
    3. its ok to rest :)

THE GOOD: i got in a lot of workouts this past week!  i lifted, went to yoga, bootcamp and runs.  pretty proud of me and my big belly!

THE BAD: i overdid it a bit deadlifting and had a sore lower back for a couple of days that even yoga couldnt fix.  at least the pain was "normal" muscle pain due to working out and not because i hurt myself.  also, need to work on my nutrition....(i feel ya @sjdihle!)

GOALS FOR THIS WEEK:  continue to workout and feel good but also give myself a break if i need it :)

  • @babygabe614- jealous of your FL vacation!

@sjdihle - what type of hip opening exercises do you do?  I could use some!

  • @lola4411 Totally agree with you on it taking longer to warm up! My husband and I did a near-4 mile run while in FL and I felt like I was running with cement in my shoes until the halfway point! Ugh.

  • @babygabe614 so frustrating huh?  i just try to push through it and my runs have gotten shorter because of it.  sluggish, some phantom back pain that always disappears at mile 2, the need to pee...

  • Random question for you girls... has anyone experienced numbness or tingling in your legs after running or walking? I did a 60 minute / 3 mile treadmill walk tonight and even now an hour later my legs are still super tingly and weird feeling. I've never felt like this after exercising before so just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this!

  • @babygabe614‌ hasn't happened to me but sounds like poor circulation. Do you have a foam roller? Give that a shot post workout. Good luck!

@lola4411 I didn't even think to use my foam roller! I will try that next time - thanks!

  • Delayed response! Sorry ladies- yesterday I was off work and obviously that means I was busier than if I had been at work.

A good pin I use for some hip opening exercises: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/216454325812919827/

Another that I haven't really used:

I also have a video I got like 5 years ago that has several short morning yoga work outs, the last of which is hip opening.  I really need to start doing that every few days!

My issue:  I have like lightening shock like pain in my left hip occasionally, kinda feels like my skin is splitting?  Not when running but typically when I get up from sitting for a long time... Anyone have that? I think its probably sciatic nerve stuff...
