the other day, MIL was asking how DD was doing and I was telling her about how we had to switch her formula because she has a milk/soy allergy. then this happened...

MIL: did you drink milk and eat dairy when you were pregnant?
me: yeah, all the time. why?
MIL: did it ever make you sick?
me: nope!
MIL: then she can't have that allergy. you would have gotten sick when you ate it if she was allergic to it.
me: blank stare
MIL: smiles
me: that's umm.. that's not how it works...
MIL: well that's how it was when I was pregnant.
me: brain explodes

Gotta love what people come out with. My mother is famous for doing things like that! She constantly thinks DS2 is cold because his fingers are chilly. I've tried to explain about poor circulation in LOs and she tries to tell me that if it were poor circulation then his hands would be warmer because that's where the blood would settle :-?

Luckily, my sister and I are both in science professions so I have backup usually.

My mil kept saying similar things. I offered to let her accompany me to the pediatrician's appointment and placated her by telling her, "That's an interesting point. When we go to LO's pedi appointment you should ask the doctor that she thinks of that." Of course, we got to the appointment and I prodded MIL "do you have any questions for the doctor?" She just blankly stared and said "no." Deep down I think she knew that she was being an idiot and didn't want to embarass herself in front of the pediatrican, but it did get her to shut the hell up.

@jpoindahouse‌ oh no, my MIL tells doctors that they're wrong. she's INSANE. she talks over them and tells them that's not how it was when she was raising her boys and they "turned out just fine". I don't bring her anywhere haha. I'm really glad that worked for you, though!!
