High-Risk Pregnancy

Lamictal and pregnant/ breastfeeding?

I take lamictal for epilepsy, and the doc made me take it through my first pregnancy. Subsequently, they told me I couldn't breastfeed while on the medication. I have heard do some other people being given the ok to bf. I'm curious to hear experiences from others who take lamictal. I'm trying for my second, and I guess I just really want to find a way that I can BF.

Re: Lamictal and pregnant/ breastfeeding?

  • this is my first pregnancy but i also take lamictal, along with keppra and depakote. my seizures have increased since pregnancy started so breastfeeding is like the last thing on my mind right now but I asked my OB and they said that would be something i would most likely discuss with the lactation specialist or the high-risk OB doctor so i was going to ask him and my neurologist when i get a chance.

  • I currently take Lamictal. I am 23 weeks pregnant and both my Neuro and high risk OB agreed that is was one of the safer meds during pregnancy and for breastfeeding.
