I'm not discounting demonic possession. Last night he woke crying at 1a, wouldn't go back to sleep until 2:30, and then woke up several more times before being up for the day at 6:30. Thought maybe teeth, has been refusing even his favorite foods.
Tonight put him to bed at 7:30, and he's now been awake since 9:15p, crying on and off. Gave him Motrin before bed, so can't do more. Even tried putting him in our bed, no dice, he wouldn't even lay down.
I feel so lost, don't know what to do. Even as an infant he didn't do this much crying.
Re: What is going on with my baby??
i remember when one of my wisdom teeth was infected, the pain was tolerable during the day, but as soon as i would start to drift to sleep, it would flare up and be unbearable. and OTC pain med did nothing. perhaps something similar happens with teething. poor babies.
the crying just gets me because he's never been a big crier. he calmed down if i rocked him in the chair, and drift off. but as soon as i got up to put him in the crib, he'd start again. i would've just slept with him in the chair if i thought i could do it without dropping him. less room in my lap these days . . . how will i ever survive TWO of these guys?!?

My guess is teething. We're going through something similar. DD went from usually sleeping through the night to only doing so once or twice a week for the past month or so. Several times a week she will wake up in the middle of the night and cry for like 2 hours straight, even if we're holding her. She's got at least 8 teeth coming in right now, at least that I can see (WTF?! Poor kid!), so I know she's in pain.
I even gave in and took her into bed with me around 11 last night in the hopes of getting a good night's sleep, since she always sleeps better that way (I try not to make it a habit though, I don't want her to expect it to always be the case!) and she still woke up at 2:00am crying really hard and begging to nurse. It sucks, because I had her totally night weaned, but nursing is the only thing that seems to relieve her pain enough for her to fall back to sleep.
Unfortunately, I think this is one of those things that we may just need to suck it up and deal with, since no amount of sleep training is going to teach a baby to deal with teething pain on his or her own. :-(
