Feet Growth

Have any of you had your feet grow during pregnancy (I'm not talking swelling)? My did not grow with DD but with this one my shoes don't fit anymore. Will they go back to the size they were before or will I end up buying all new shoes??? I'm glad summer is coming (hopefully) soon so I can wear sandals but all my work shoes don't fit anymore.

Re: Feet Growth

  • So far I have not has this but I've heard of it happening before!

  • I have heard of it as well and as far as I know their feet did not go back to their previous size.

  • I didn't and haven't (knock on wood) had that happen. The women I know that had that happen did not have their feet go back down, but I've heard that sometimes it does, so who knows? I'd be so upset if I had to replace my shoes. Hopefully it goes back for you!!

  • My arches fell during my last pregnancy, which I think is why my feet grew. I can't remember how long it took, but mine eventually went back to normal. Of the other two women I know that this happened to, theirs did not. I guess I'm speshul. Anyways, my point is that it's possible, so don't throw out all your shoes just yet.
  • Not me (so far), but my mom's feet grew a few sizes between her 4 kids. I they may have shrunk back down a little bit, I don't know, but they're still bigger than they were before she started having kids.

  • Yes, I went up a size with my DS1 and they gradually came back down to normal. I attribute it to an almost 50lb weight gain during my first pregnancy, though.

  • My mom's feet grew a full size after her two pregnancies. My feet haven't changed at all.

  • I think this is happening to me my feet die know my work shoes by the end of my shift. But so wierd they swelled so bad with my son but this time it seems like they grew side to side and are wider not longer and I have no swelling this time around... I feel like I have duck feet! Haha
  • Yep with my last pregnancy, I had a lot of swelling and couldn't fit into my shoe size 10. After my child was born and the swelling subsided, my shoe size remained a whole size larger-11. I saw a pediatrist a month after baby was born (because of post swelling / infection near my big toes). He said it was common to have your feet grow after giving birth, sometimes they will go back into your old size or size larger, it just depends. He told me to keep my shoes for a year after the birth, if they don't fit after that time, that's your new shoe size--and then just get rid of the shoes then.
  • Both my own mom's and my MIL's feet grew a size during their pregnancies and never back down. Mine have not changed so far.

  • Not in length but they're definitely wider (and not due to swelling) - I can't wear any of my ballet flats anymore without a decent amount of discomfort!  Thankfully work attire is casual so I can wear my slip on sneakers instead since they have more give.  The same thing happened to me last time and it did eventually go back to normal (I'd say about 4 months or so after delivery).

  • Yes-my feet have grown from an 7.5/8 to a 8.5/9. I had several shoes that I cannot wear anymore.

Mine are up a full size, had to buy some new shoes a few weeks ago. Most of the women I've talked to whose feet grew said they just stayed that way so I'm trying to embrace my new clown feet.
  • I had this happen with DS1 - I really don't know how much of it was swelling and how much was actual growth, but I had to buy shoes a size bigger than my normal size and none of my pre-pregnancy shoes fit me for the last 3 or so months. After a while though I was able to fit back into all my shoes (after having my son). This time, it hasn't happened to me yet but I can tell some of my regular shoes are a little tighter (and I haven't had the swelling yet).

  • I am very much not excited about the changes pregnancy has made to my feet. Some swelling, but the big thing is a developing bunion on 1 foot. I had to buy new shoes to accommodate for the size so they don't rub on it and make if worse. I am assuming that this is not going to go away after pregnancy so I'm either going to have to live with it or have it taken care of in the future. On the bright side, if a bunion is the worst thing I have to deal with during this pregnancy then I guess it's not all test bad....

  • Mine are probably close to a half-size bigger. Most days I also have really bad swelling, but even when I don't, I still notice my shoes fit too tight. It was sad times, USA when I realized my two new pairs of Toms I got don't fit my big ol' pregnant dogs! First world problem, I guess - at least I'll be able to enjoy them this summer.

  • After my daughter, my feet DID go back to my usual size 8.  At the end I was a 9!  But, it was summertime and flip-flops were my lifesavers.

This child, the swelling is starting, but I am just a teeny bit bigger than my usual size and I really don't want to spend money on shoes if they will go back down again.

  • I have not had any issues yet but a friend highly recommended the shoe stretcher from Zappos (as others have said, apparently if your feet grow they don't go back) to save on buying tons of new shoes. Here is the link, the reviews seem promising. Good luck!

  • My feet went up a half size with my son. Totally sucks!
