Taking out the garbage (vent and animal sensitive subject)

I'm full of questions today.

Who takes out the garbage in your household?

I'm asking because if the garbage is full, I don't have a problem with taking it out to the can. If DD is Miss fussy pants, sometimes I'll just set it on the porch and DH will take it up for me when he gets home from work, I started living alone when I was 16 so I was used to doing it, no biggie.

Well, my neighbors H left about 6 weeks ago. (He found out she had been cheating on him for over 6 years!) anyway, he always took the garbage out. She would set it on the porch, and he'd take care of it, fine it works for their family. But, ever since he left she sets out the trash on the front porch and won't take it to the can. One son stayed with her and the other went with the dad, and the one that stayed with her wont take it to the can. She thinks she is Queen Elizabeth (no joke) so I know she won't do it. It's starting to look super trashy (pun intended ) ;)

Another thing that bothers me is, I noticed their 3 dogs the other day. They never really took good care of their dogs but they seriously look horrible. I told DH to look and he about lost it. I started crying. You can see every rib in all of those dogs and their hind quarters. They are so neglected, and starved. Should I just call animal control or call/text the H. We were super good friends with him (not her) or leave it alone? But I can't. The garbage is disgusting but the dogs are breaking my heart. Wwyd?

  • Call animal control today! As far as the trash you can try calling the city to see if it violates code.

Ugh. I'm crying again now about the dogs. I remember years back when I first moved in with H, they had gone on vacation and were gone for 3 days at the time out of 7. I checked on the dogs and they had no food or water. I got in my truck went to walmart and got them dog food. I went home gave them food and water. They ate and drank so quickly because they were so hungry. The lab even threw up bc he was eating so quickly, I loved on those dogs for probably an hour. They get no affection :(
  • If they will go on vacation and not leave food, I'd skip calling the H and call animal control. He obviously has a history of not caring for the dogs properly either.

The city/county should be able to help with the trash issue. Depending on what the regulations are where you live they'll probably send someone out to check the violation, then they have to give the owner a certain amount of days to correct the problem, so you may not see the trash moved immediately.

  • Yeah, after hearing the vacation story, don't even bother calling the H. Call animal control, and call them every day until they come out. Call the city about the trash.
  • Oh, and my H usually takes the trash out, but if it's full and he's not around, I can muster my lazy ass to take it out myself. We're in Florida, and the cockroaches would have a fiesta, and invite the raccoons and possums.

I'd be calling the humane society about the dogs! As for the trash I'd be contacting the city about ordinances. Do they not take it to the curb on trash day or are they just not putting it in a can? I honestly would be worried about how she's taking care of the son that's living with her if she is neglecting the dogs and leaving trash on the porch. ETA: H usually takes the trash out but I have no problem doing it if it's full or if I put something really nasty in there I'll take it out right away. We also don't have that much trash so I feel like it doesn't get taken out that often.
The boy is 18 so he is fully capable of helping himself so that doesn't bother me. She just tosses the garbage on the front porch and doesn't take it out to the can or take the can to the curb on garbage morning. I mean come on, we live in a nice neighborhood, it looks horrible. Just bc she's trotting around town, celebrating her singledom doesn't mean she can't make time to take her garbage to the curb.
  • I would definitely give the dogs some food and then call the ASPCA. I would call the township about the trash.
