In addition to the "Thawing milk" post

Do you all only give thawed on Monday and fresh pumped throughout the week?

I have been only using freezer stash during the day (I nurse during my lunch break).

Am I doing this wrong?

Fresh pumped makes more sense but now my freezer is full and I feel so stupid.

Re: In addition to the "Thawing milk" post

  • I am only working on frozen milk from 2/7 so it's still pretty current. I think I will start using fresh pumped. Thank you ladies!

  • I give all frozen on Monday, then 3 bottles fresh and one frozen the other days I work. The exception is if one or both of us are sick, when I give as much fresh as possible.

My mom is my DCP, so I don't defrost anything. She just runs the frozen bag under warm water when LO is ready to eat.

  • I freeze the week's milk on Friday nights. I only send frozen bags to daycare/ nanny. It works well for me.

    My Charts since 2009

  • I just switched from dropping off all frozen bags at the beginning of each week to deciding to bring fresh each day. (For the antibodies!)

I brought fresh today (Monday) from what I pumped Friday since everything I read said it would still be ok still (I also did a smell test)

I have some frozen and formula for back up both at home and at daycare.

My DCP said the fresh milk kept baby full for longer, not sure why or if it was just a coincidence but ok with me!
  • I would start using your freezer stash so it doesn't go to waste. I only work three days a week, and rarely two days in a row, so I was always mindful of when my milk was going to "expire."

Most days, I'd defrost a bag or two of previously frozen milk and have two bottles of fresh milk prepped as well. I'd tell DH what ones he should feed DD first, and if any milk was left over that day (which happened the more she ate solids), I'd be able to freeze the fresh milk.

Even if you use mostly fresh milk, but use a little bit of frozen each day, you'll rotate your stash and not have to worry about your stash getting too old.
