Sad :(

My Grandmom has been telling my mom for a few years now that's always wanted to go to the Denver Pow Wow so my mom decided this was the year to cross it off the bucket list and they flew out on Thursday. They were scheduled to fly back home this morning. Well last night she suffered a major stroke and the doctors aren't sure that she's even going to survive the next 24-48 hours. My poor mom is there alone with her. She called the family and told them they need to get out there ASAP because she can't do this alone. It's not even her bio mom, but she's someone that's close enough for my mom to really consider her a mom. My mom does everything for her, even though she has her own kids, because they won't do nearly as much for her. Thankfully one of them is flying out there tonight. My poor mom is a mess. I'm at work and can't focus on anything. She's been a grandmother to me forever. The cheapest flight I can find to Denver is $500 round trip and I'm debating on putting out the money and going. I feel absolutely terrible

Thanks @BandEddie!!! I looked at Philly, which is the closest and it was super expensive, the $500 flight I found is out of Atlantic City, didn't even think to check Newark!

Call the airline and see if they will give you a cheaper flight. I know they will if you are going for a funeral. It never hurts to ask - though it may take time to get a real person on the phone.

I'm so sorry, Steph. I understand the desire to fly down there, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea. You can call the airlines and see if they can arrange a bereavement fare for you. I'm not sure if the person has to be already declared dead in order for that arrangement to be made, but it's worth a phone call. I went through a very similar situation when my mom died and I was forced to get to Texas in a hurry.
