Urgent WWYD??

I've made a couple posts about Lo's mysterious diarrhea the last couple days. I called her dr today and they are going to see her Wednesday but she just had her 3rd blow out of the day and her back was soaked all the way up to her neck. Usually it's with more poop but this time was like mostly water. She has doing this 2-3 times a day since Thursday and she also doesn't seem to have her normal appetite but is still eating some. Other wise acting totally normal. Would you take her to afterhours or the ER or wait it out? I'm at my wits end!

Re: Urgent WWYD??

  • I would take her in. I think that would put my mind at ease. Best of luck!

  • I would take her in. I'd be very concerned with her getting dehydrated at that rate, especially if her appetite is decreased.
  • I'd take her in. Go with your instinct. Hope she feels better!

  • Def do the pedialite and if you can talk to your pedi tonight do so. Otherwise yes take her to the ER , go with your gut.

  •  Is she teething at all? My daughter is teething/drooling like crazy and having poop explosions daily which is a new thing for her. However, She is eating as much as ever and totally happy. SInce your baby is eating less and not quite herself I would call and take her in
  • After hours yes. ER no.

  • The on-call nurse at my pedi office says that often times symptoms of illness (like diarrhea) are attributed to teething incorrectly. She said that teething should not cause such severe symptoms, generally. I would take the baby in just to be safe. And I think someone on here brought up the point that breastmilk is more hydrating than pedialyte. Are you breast feeding, or formula feeding?

  • She is breastfed and just downed a bottle, I guess making up for the giant piop she just had. I'm waiting for the call nurse to call back! Thanks ladies!
  • My LO has been having diarrhea after each feeding since Friday. He's eating fine and is not miserable. Not dehydrated at all. Called the doc today and she said it was a virus going around and to switch him to soy formula until it passes. He's on his 2nd bottle and no diarrhea. It totally worked...taking the dairy out. Maybe lay off of it for a few days? Hope your LO feels better soon!
  • I took my baby in for the same thing. Doc said it was normal for breastfed babies. But I'd call the after hours line.

As long as she is eating and you are getting wet diapers I am sure she is fine!

    Good luck!
  • As @painterlady said, there is definitely a stomach virus going around. FI just had it and luckily I ran around like a crazy woman disinfecting the place to make sure that myself or LO didn't get it. Lots of peeps seem to be suffering from this though.

  • Since she's bf, skip the pedialyte. BM has all the liquid she needs, and more nutrients than pedialyte. Keep us posted on the call back!

  • The on call nurse didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. She said to either wait it out or take her to the ER so here we are, probably getting some other sorta sickness from being here! Waiting on the doc! But she hasn't lost any weight thankfully!
  • Just an FYI on diarrhea once they get it. It takes several days to get normal poops back at least it did for D. Hopefully the nurse has done helpful suggestions

  • Finally home and in bed, she isn't dehydrated luckily! They said just keep an eye on her and we have her six month appointment coming up anyway so we can follow up then if there's more probs. Now that we are done I do feel silly for going but damn I feel a huge sigh of relief! Thanks for everyone's inputs!!
