Sleeping in swaddle blankets

Hi ladies!  I am lurking from Jan 2014 board.  My DD2 will sleep through the night if she is in the swaddle me velcro swaddle blanket.  We tried the other night to put her in a sleep sack instead and she was up several times :/.  I know that when she can roll over on her own we can no longer put her in the swaddle me blankets...my question is for those of you who had LO's who also slept in the velcro swaddle blankets.  When they can roll themselves over did they continue to sleep good (maybe just rolling over) when no longer in the velcro swaddle blankets or did you go back to getting up during the night?

Just curious...my DD1 never used the swaddle blankets and learned to sleep through the night in a sleep sack so we never went through this with her...it is so true that each baby is different :)

Thanks!!

  • Yeah, what @wedding06 said.

We're screwed without the swaddle but we had no choice once he started rolling. Colds, teething, 4MW, breaking the swaddle was the perfect storm in our house.

It took awhile for him to figure out how he could get comfortable but now that he has it's been decent. We get two 5 hour stretches of sleep overnight ATM.
  • Start with one arm out of the velcro sacks.  That's what worked for us and now we're onto just regular sleeps sacks with pretty good success, even with a baby with a tough cough.

Okay now every time I quote you I feel all blushy since I professed my love for you ;)

But this exactly. We swaddled in the Swaddlemes until she was about to learn to roll over (to avoid having to go cold turkey) and then did one week with one arm out. Then a week with both arms out. All in all it went pretty well. Now she's in a sleep sack. She's up about once or twice a night because she coughs herself awake but is down quickly enough if I hold her arms down.
