Shower question

For any STMs or ladies who have had your showers already:

Provided that your shower wasn't a surprise, did you get there late and make an entrance? Or were you there on time with the host(ess)?

At almost every shower I have ever attended, the BTB or MTB has arrived about a half an hour to an hour after all of the guests. I feel like that's silly since I know about it and why not get there on time. But honestly I have no clue what to do (I never had a bridal shower so I can't go off of what I did last time).

Is there some reason why the guest of honor usually arrives late? What are you ladies doing or what have you done? Thanks!

I had two showers (gasp!), for the first it was a surprise so I arrived late. The second I knew about and helped MIL plan (she was going through some health issues) so I was there early.

That seems strange to me, showing up late for your own party. I showed up about 10 min early for mine.

I always showed up early to greet guests. Every shower I have been to has been like that. I would find it strange if the mother-to-be showed up late.

I'm going early. I felt overwhelmed at my bridal shower by the surprise and being attacked by the whole room at once. Not that big of a deal, but my mom and aunt (who are hosting) don't care if I come early. That way I can greet everyone as they come in a little at a time.

I was early to both of mine. The first we had a mix of friends and family that didn't know each other so I wanted to be there to greet and introduce people. The second was out of town so I was staying with the host (my mom) so I ended up helping her with last minute details and DH helped parked my elderly families cars since mom's driveway is small.

I showed up early actually. That way I could get pics of stuff before everyone came and I wanted to help with anything if they needed it.

I was at my shower 30 minutes before guest were to arrive and stayed like an hour after guests left. I wanted to greet people as they arrived that way I knew I couldn't miss anyone.

Ditto with showing up early to greet guests. Also because I wanted food.

I went early to help my mom set up and I wanted to be there to greet guests. I can see being late only if it's a surprise shower.

Agree with PPs - I was there about 30 minutes early. My sister was hosting, and she was still doing a few last minute things when guests started arriving. I was able to greet them all individually, and keep them out of my sisters way so she could finish up. Also, the first 2 who arrived didn't know each other, so I think it would have been a little awkward for them if I wasn't there.

Pretty sure that I was a few minutes early. I've never heard anyone showing up late. Personally I think that seems kinda strange.

I agree with pp it seems strange to be not to be there early if it's not a surprise. We love with my mom who is hosting my shower so I will be here to help all the set up and clean up I know I'm the guest of honor but it's the lease I feel I can do is help. I hate the awkward feeling of the first few guests tho lol

I agree with this which is one of the reasons why I'd prefer to get there early. I have some friends coming who don't know each other and I'd like to introduce them.

My shower with DD was not a surprise and I got there early to greet guests.

Mine was not a surprise, so I arrived on time to greet everyone as they came in. It also allowed me to have longer conversations with each person, rather than walking around from table to table during the actual shower.

My family is throwing me two showers - the in-laws and my side each. My first shower - I was there before it started (it was at my house). Second shower I will be skyping in, and so I will be there on time.

Due to bed rest the shower was being hosted at my house, so I was there before and after all the set up and take down. I had planned to arrive on time to my bridal shower according to the invite but that was very much done without any input from me- very traditionally. This shower I had multiple hosts and they let me in on the planning nice it was at our place- it would have felt very strange to make a grand entrance.

I was there before it started, I greeted every guest and then moved around the room chatting and catching up.

I'm planning on going early to mine this Saturday, I wanted to be there before people started arriving so I could greet everyone. I would also feel a little awkward walking in if everyone was already there waiting for me.

I'll also be getting there a little early. For many of the reasons listed above and so I have time to give the hosts a thank you gift.

I think it's incredibly rude to show up late!

It's completely out of question to show up late to an event where you're the guest of honor and not be there to greet the guests who are there to celebrate YOU.

I find myself sitting here rolling my eyes and nodding my head.. I seriously don't get it. That's unbelievably tacky and inappropriate.

Mine is Sunday and I'm going to be there early to greet guests as they arrive. Everyone is coming a distance, and I want as much time with them all as possible!

I usually like to show up early so I can greet the guests as well. There was only one time I was late and that is because the host of the shower didnt seem to care that I had to work right up to the time the shower started, then drive half an hour to get there. I greatly appreciated the shower but didnt actually mind being late to that one (the guests were all my MILs friends and I barely knew any of them)

i'm with the majority here. my shower is this saturday (hosted by MIL and SIL), and I plan to be there early to meet and greet guests. I'm also going to be there as late as necessary because I want to offer help cleaning up.

I'm not a fan of making an "entrance" since showers are optional acts of extreme kindness and generousity, and I want to be sure everyone knows how damn grateful I am.
