Pressure in low abdomen

Yesterday when I was shopping and walking around, I felt a low abdominal pressure that stopped me in my tracks. It didn't "hurt" but it was uncomfortable and I felt that I didn't want to keep walking. At rest it stopped. This kept happening every time I walked. So I got on one of the motorized scooter things and didn't feel it anymore. Then it started up again when I got off the scooter. When I got home, I drank, and rested all the rest of the day. This morning I am having the same feeling.

Some people are telling me it is BH, some people say it isn't. I don't know, but I didn't want to chance it.

Called the doctor just to be safe and they want to check me for a UTI and right now I'm also waiting for Triage at the hospital to call me back.

Have any of you had this sort of pressure? What did it end up being for you?

Re: Pressure in low abdomen

  • I have a lot of similar pressure but mine isn't in the lower abdomen area.
Mine typically tightens in the middle of my belly but sometimes its so tight, I have to stop what I'm doing and wait a few minutes for it to loosen up.
I'd like to assume things are fine and it's completely normal (especially after noticing you're 34 weeks along) but definitely check with the doctor to insure it can't be anything else!

  • Mine are lower, too. It's more cervix pressure and sharp shooting pains(lightening crotch?) where a tampon would sit. I'm not on my feet too much, but just going to a few stores can start it up. Baby has been low all this pregnancy.
I was going to call the dr today if it didn't go away, but I've been fine today and have an appt on Thursday.
    Keep us posted.
  • I have this too. In my case it's a combination of the baby's position (frank breech, with either her butt or her feet lodged in my pelvis at any given time), BH contrax (especially when I'm not well hydrated or my activity level has been high), and RLP. I have horrible RLP this time around, so bad I can barely walk sometimes.

Your doctor will likely want to check you out just to make sure it's not PTL (my own doctor performed a cervical check, a fFN test, and ordered a UA on me last week), but in most cases it's just one or more of the three things I mentioned.

  • I have had some low abdominal pressure, usually when I have been pushing myself too hard on the salesfloor at work. I cant walk through IKEA or Costco without the same pressure making itself known. My OB didnt say anything other than to slow down and rest more often.

I would still mention it to your OB as each of our situations is different. Rest seems to help with a lot of the discomforts.

  • i'm sorry you're dealing with this. hopefully, your OB will have some helpful advice for you.

    be well.
  • I get something very similar when I walk a lot. It happened when I went to DC for the day and another when I was shopping for a long time. It stopped as soon as I sat down. I imagine it is either BH or round ligament pain. Either way, as long as it goes away with fluids or rest, doesn't sound like the real deal. Better to be sure and talk to your doc.
  • I went to triage for the same thing. They said it was baby just getting lower and practice contractions. Also, I haven't been drinking enough water and putting my feet up while resting. Good luck!

  • I guess they are just checking my urine today and might have me come tomorrow for an actual appointment at the OB. Triage was a joke. They were supposed to call me back but never did so I had to call them. When I explained, Triage seemed confused and didn't know what was going on with me at all, didn't have the ability to look at the notes from the nurse I spoke with, and acted like I was the dumb one. When I asked about getting a doctor's note for work today they poo-poo'd me and said they think its muscle pain and to just have the urine test done at the lab. So I called the OB office again and they said come in for the lab, and are giving me a note for work (I'm supposed to be sleeping now because I work night shift, so if I get the test done I wouldn't be rested for work, plus I am not comfortable going in until they know if something is wrong or not). Anyway, I'm leaving soon for the urine test. Work is aware and I'll fax them the note. I hate getting the "run around" and it doesn't give me much confidence when the triage unit can't even read the notes my OB office has entered, and acts like they didn't even know they were to contact me.

  • I've been having pressure also. I just assume that it's a combination of BH and baby's position. If you are worried def talk to your obgyn. I Just assumed it was normal - I will def be mentioning it to by midwife at my appt tho.

  • Just pressure and tightening might be BH. Also, if they feel better with less activity, sounds like BH. When I had the UTI, it felt like pressure to go poop frequently, but nothing was happening and I wasn't constipated. It also continued no matter what I was doing. Good luck, hope it's nothing.

  • I just had this when walking around the grocery store. All across my lower abdomen and into the small of my back. It's like a pressure/tightening but then it feels like I really have to poop, then it eases. I feel like LO is getting lower and she's definitely more central than last week. Perhaps she's getting into position!

  • I had this today along with menstral like cramps, it lasted about three hours despite getting up and walking around, drinking cold water, eating something, etc. Finally when I got home from work I took a warm bath, ate supper, and laid down and its eased up.
