when it was time to make the switch? If so how is it working out? Were you able to find bed rails that fit well? At what age did you put your toddler into a twin size? Thanks.
We put DS into a twin bed and decided to skip the toddler bed. ?I wanted new furniture for his room since DS#2 was getting all the nursery furniture. ?I felt like toddler beds were a waste of money and decided to go with the twin. ?I actually got him bunk beds because I liked the furniture set and eventually my boys will share them,
?As far as safety, the ladder is not installed so he cannot climb on the top, and we got a safety first bed rail or the bottom bunk. ?It works great. ?DS has only fallen out the the bed once, and I am not We switched when he turned two, and it was hell. ?He was on such a sleep strike, and sleep has not really been the same since. ?He wakes up very early and there is nothing stopping him from getting up and coming into our room. ?When he was in a crib, he woke up very early as well, but he entertained himself until we came to get him. ?Hope this helps.?
We put our little one directly into a twin bed. He loved it. We never used rails only put a pillow or two beside him and that would stop him and he was a very crazy sleeper...all over the place. Has only fallen out of bed a time or two in the two years he's been in a twin bed. He also stays in bed so we are very lucky. He still at 4 and half yells at us if he has to go to the bathroom at night and asks to get out of bed so we haven't had to worry about keeping him in there. He likes sleeping too much to get out on his own and wake us up.
WE switched DD1 to a twin. We moved at 23 mo, she was stuffed in a PNP at MIL's for 2 mo, then to a twin at 25 mo. We never did rails and she has been fine. She now will STTN in her bed. Prior, she would wake to crawl in bed with us, or go to potty.
We put Jack in a toddler bed only because his crib converted to a toddler and then to a full. We did the toddler for about five weeks and then converted it to the full. He is much happier in a full than he was in his toddler bed. I ordered the extra long fold down rails from Onestepahead.com . My husband made a rail for one side a couple months ago so we don't have to use the onestepahead.com ones anymore. We simply lift the rail off and stash it under Jack's bed when he's not in it.
I would skip the toddler if you have to purchase one and buy a twin.
I switched DD to a twin bed at 16mo. She always hated the crib and immediately slept better.
Right now, it's still just the mattress on the floor, so falling out isn't a problem and there's no rail on it. She does not get out of bed on her own.
We used the twin bed because we had it. If you don't have a twin, you could just put the crib mattress on the floor to see how your DC likes it.... although I do think that part of the reason DD likes the twin so much better is that it is a softer mattress and the crib mattress is VERY hard.
We went from a crib to twin bed for our son a few years ago. No problem. He did fall out once, but that was it. He did fine, and it's one of those platform taller beds.
At 18 months, I moved my DD to a twin size mattress that we had on the floor with a bed rail. We added the box spring about 6 months later and still have not added the bed frame (she is 2 1/2 now) although I think she would be fine with it. She is just super tiny so it would be harder for her to get in and out by herself. She has always done awesome in the twin bed.
