Hello-
I am a FTM and am EBF my 7 week old DD. She has had a slightly shallow latch since the beginning but we have been working on it and had been doing well. The last few days she has been unlatching and relatching several times during nursing sessions, especially on the middle of the night. The problem is instead of latching nicely she just kind of 'slurps' the nipple back in and not only does it hurt but I'm back to correcting each latch. Could this be an over active letdown problem? Distraction? Bad habit? Any advice on either keeping her latched or encouraging her to latch properly?
Thanks in advance, I've learned a ton from this board and appreciate all your expertise!

Re: Intro and latch question
Given the shallow latch, it's probably number 2. If it takes a while for your milk to let down you can try 'priming' with a pump or hand expressing to get things going and that might help but if it's happening partway through that won't help.
Have you seen a LC about the latch? There's also some good videos on how to get a deep latch, i.e. flipple. Again, laid back nursing often helps because you have gravity on your side.
Edit: I'm typing too quickly and not making sense. My point being if she has a shallow latch, not only is it irritating to you but it also makes it hard for her to get the milk out. So that could be the source of the frustration and hence latching/delatching.
