Breastfeeding

Just started pumping and I have a question

LO is just over 4mths old and I want to start working bottles into his daytime routine. How do I know how much to give him?? Right now I get about 2.5oz from each boob per pumping session, except for in the morning I hit the jack pot (around 8oz in a sitting). Should I continue to do 2.5 oz in a bottle or bump it up? Sometimes he'll eat at both breasts but usually it's just one. I honestly just don't even know how to begin this..

Re: Just started pumping and I have a question

  • My LO has been getting up every 3 hrs at night. He was getting a good stretch around 2 months, but that changed around 3mths. I want to continue to breastfeed at night, but during the day it would be nice to give a bottle occassionally. Plus, I feel like he gets frustrated bc my let down doesn't happen immediately. He's got to work a bit, and you can tell he gets mad.

  • 2-3 ounces at a time is normal, though they will sometimes eat 1/2 ounce (which always drives me mad, c'mon baby you cried for 5 minutes while I got your bottle and then that's all you want??) or up to 4 or 5 particuarly if they are going through a growth spurt or right before bed.

And remember to save any unused portions in the fridge and re-offer next time.
