Making a home Monday ~~~~~

Do you like your DH's housekeeping methods? Does your DH clean? Do you have to nag?

I have to nag for some stuff. He'll do dishes and trash pretty faithfully but, anything else is a like pulling teeth.

I hate it when he runs the dishwasher and maybe folds a basket of clothes and then says he "cleaned the house". Um - no.

Re: Making a home Monday ~~~~~

  • My husband cleans the house pretty well. He and I both have a pretty high standard for cleanliness, so he and I both put in effort. He cleans the dishes almost every evening. And when we have parties and stuff, I usually ask him to do the bathrooms. But he hates to dust and vacuum, so those usually fall to me.

  • I do most of the cleaning because I stay at home and he works 60 hours a week. When he does clean, he does a good job and I don't nag him.

  • DH isn't bad at cleaning, just sometimes he leaves stuff lying around which is unnecessary, but for the most part he is a clean dude.  I do most of the deep cleaning like hands and knees washing the floor, and the bathrooms, but if I need him to do something he will do it. He would say I nag, but sometimes I think I tease him about leaving stuff not picked up.

  • His methods are fine, because he knows how I like shit and makes a point of doing it my way- But I do have to ask him to do shit, I won't say nag, because he knows if I am asking him for anything it's because I want it fucking done, I don't want to talk about it. I don't really ask him to do much around the house, since he does the laundry, I feel like he contributes enough with that- once in a while I'll ask him to do a load of dishes or vacuum.

  • I think guys are just wired different. When my H mops the floor- he just mops the floor, where I will move furniture, etc.

Or another example- I beg all the time for him to put his tech skills to use and wall mount the tv. And he says "you won't like it because wires will run up the wall" (which is true) and then I answer "you work with a bunch of ENGINEERS - can't you figure out how to get camouflage the wires?!" #-o

  • DH is actually much better about cleaning than me. I keep up with the day to day stuff, dishes, laundry, toys and general clutter, but he is always the one who does the sweeping, dusting vacuuming etc. If he's home he helps with the day to day stuff too. We work as a pretty equal team. I'm a lucky lady.  ;;)

  • I don't love his methods, but I love that he cleans, so I keep my mouth shut! He's home a lot more than I am so he does a lot of the household stuff. He doesn't really do the deep cleaning unless it's a special occasion but he has a lot more to complain about than I do so I try not to nag.
  • The only thing my DH does without nagging is take out the garbage...anything else I have to ask repeatedly or nag about. He thinks that since I am home all day (I do daycare from my home) that I should do all the house work. We argue about it often, I keep asserting that I am working all day too.

I just wish he would help me out rather than complain. I will say one thing in his defense, I am picky about how just about everything is done. That being said, if he did it I wouldn't complain.

  • I only work one and a half days a week, whereas DW works five and a half, so I do most of the cleaning. I don't think I'm bad at it, I could be terrible, but I actually have higher standards of cleanliness than DW, so she doesn't complain. Like, when she lived by herself before she had DSD you would be lucky if she hoovered once a month.

When she was off and maternity leave, and I was working, I used to nag at her that she left socks everywhere, and never did any form of cleaning and she told me she'd rather live in relative squalor than clean, so yeah, I've stopped nagging her. It doesn't bother me anymore. If I ask her to do something, she'll do it.

She does the dishes though, and sometimes the washing.

@KC1212 Why do you move stuff around when you mop? There's not going to be anything underneath something that's on the floor?

  • @Kai&Allie‌ We do not have carpet in our house and you would be surprised at the grossness that accumulates under the couch because my son drops toys and dry cereal through the cushions. So I scoot the couch out and sweep and mop underneath.

  • Hubs nags. I'm ADHD and believe a little mess is ok if it means being w dd and painting, coloring, playing, learning... Hubs would rather I limit that a little more and have a sterile house, but we have both gotten better over the years and just in time for dd to be a messy happy toddler. Hubs nags and I try to keep up. Eh. EH. I am the only one who sweeps, vacuums, or cleans counters and that gets done1-2x a week - under couch too!!!
