Parenting after a Loss

Night Owl Toddler

My once excellent sleeper has turned into a wild night owl. Ever since we transitioned him to a toddler bed he gets up and down for at least an hour before he goes down (unless I take him for a drive) and then he joins us in the bed at 2am.

Today I had to take him in the car for 30 minutes before he'd pass out for his nap. He might nap for an hour then he's up at it again. Any thoughts or suggestions? He sleeps fine at daycare. He's wearing me out and DH is blaming me for his behavior. He did have a brief issue with night terrors last year..but nothing that has gone on this long.

Re: Night Owl Toddler

  • Oh gosh, no advice, just ((hugs)) as that sounds horrible. I fear the conversion to toddler bed. Hope your DS gets back on the good sleeping bus soon. And p.s., how exactly is his behavior your fault? Silly DH.

  • I don't have any personal advice/experience, but the same thing happened to my older sister when her DD turned 3 and was moved to a toddler bed (her DS never had an issue). It lasted quite a while, unfortunately. She got to a point where her DD would only sleep in their room in a sleeping bag by their bed. She started a reward/star system with her to get her back to her room and to get her to stay there, but it only worked some of the time. She is back her in room now, but I remember my sister crying over this, she was so frustrated and sleep deprived. It may have nothing to do with the bed move, kids have regressions until they are 5+. I hope it gets better soon. And how can DH blame you? Cray, cray!

    Hugs, momma!

  • Thanks ladies! It was crazy last night...we ended up letting him sleep with us because I was worried he'd wake the baby. :( He threw a massive fit when we took him back in his room. We switched him after he joined us early one morning...while he was still using the bed as a crib so it was more of a safety issue. I know has really been wanting extra cuddles lately too...so who knows what the deal was.
