Hello,
I have lurked all around the bump..but have really come to like this board and find lots of helpful information here. I am a school psychologist, have a 17 month old DS, and am expecting my second child in September.
DS goes to a SAHM's for childcare. She is fantastic and my DS loves her. He's been with her for a year now. Backup care has always been a concern in the back of my mind, but it's just now come to the forefront as I scramble to make other arrangements for DS because his sitter and her DD have a stomach virus. Staying home isn't an option for myself or DH this week as we all missed work last week battling this virus ourselves. Luckily my mom can help me out tomorrow, but it has gotten me thinking. Those if you in somewhat similar situations..do you have back up plans?
Re: Intro and backup care question
1) DH and I split the day, each staying home for a 1/2 day. We can do flextime/work-from-home to avoid taking vacation time.
2) Use our work-sponsored back-up care through Bright Horizons; they'll send a nanny or find a center for DS to go to(work covers part of the cost). Haven't used this yet because we've been lucky to never need backup care on a day that our nanny couldn't care for our son.
3) Hire a sitter, high school kids when they don't have school or college kids based on their availability
4) Call in a favor with my SAHM friends and offer to watch their kids next time they need/want me to.
1) DH takes off because he gets a lot of sick/vacation leave
2) We split the day and each try to WFH
3) I WFH and care for DS/DD
4) Call in my mom to come over and help
