XP: BF snacker starting DC

DS2 is a snacker at 11 weeks and eats for 5-10 minutes about every hour. He sleeps without eating for 10+ hour stretches at night, however. He is starting at DC soon and I'm just wondering how he is going to adapt. He's pretty chill as long as he gets to eat when he wants but I guess it's his only method of soothing at the moment. He really doesn't like the pacifier much. I highly doubt DC will want to feed him every hour. Has anyone had this issue? Did your LO adapt and eat less frequently? Any tips?

  • My only tip is just to see what happens when you actually send him. You never know what they'll do. Then you can adapt from what happens. I would also discuss with the dcp before the first day and see what they suggest.

  • Your LO's snacking could have a lot to do with the fact that you are around her all the time, so she knows she can BF for comfort.  Once you are away from her, and she is stimulated by a new environment, she may not want to snack as much.

I wouldn't worry about it.  DCP see this all the time and are very well equipped to handle it!!  :)  Good luck!  It's never easy to make the transition, but from my experience, DCP know more about how to handle these things than I ever did.  They've seen it all!!

  • My DD was the same way, but it's funny how babies will act differently when someone different is giving them a bottle vs mom BFing. I wouldn't worry about it. My mom got my DD drinking bottles every 2hrs with no trouble. Just wait and see how it goes. DCP are used to getting babies on schedules.
