Weekly Exercise Thread

Good morning, May Mamas!

I don't know about you (maybe I'm alone on this one), but as a FTM, I am so ready to have my body back. I think I recently started to feel pregnant  - that sounds stupid, I know. I know I've been pregnant, but the lack of sleep, lack of clothes I fit into, lack of miles I can run, etc. is really starting to weigh on me. I know when Squish is out, I'll miss feeling the rolls/kicks/hiccups, but today, I just want my body back. Okay, end vent.

How did you do this week?

Re: Weekly Exercise Thread

  • Week: 31 weeks
    Exercise Log:
    3/18 - Run 1.5 miles/20 minutes of free weights/squats/lunges/planks
    3/19: Run 1.5 miles/20 minutes of free weights/squats/lunges/planks
3/22: Walk 2 miles with dog
    3/23: 1 hour kickboxing class
Rant/Rave: Rant: see above. Rave: Our glider/ottoman came into Buy Buy Baby this past week and we picked it up Friday night. So happy to have the nursery almost done.
Goals for this week: Work out 5x and cut back on the amount of crap I've been eating.
GTYK: What type of pain relief will you be using during labor (medicated and non-medicate)? STMs - any advice for FTMs? I'm hoping to have an un-medicated birth, but my main concern is for an end result with a healthy baby and a healthy me. We took a birthing class & learned different coping methods - I'm planning on being mobile, using some breathing techniques/yoga poses, focal points, hydrotherapy (shower), and perhaps some aromatherapy (lavender is very calming for me).  FTM - so no advice.

  • I 100% understand what you are saying and I am also finally "feeling pregnant" in the ways you described.

    Week: Almost 31 weeks.
Exercise Log: I managed to get in strength training 5 times last week. Cardio I only got 2 days.
Rant/Rave: If the weather would cooperate, I could get more cardio in. However, I really am enjoying my strength training and I do feel like things are improving noticeably.
Goals for this week: 5 days of strength training, ideally 5 days of cardio but I''m not sure it will happen.
GTYK: What type of pain relief will you be using during labor (medicated and non-medicate)? STMs - any advice for FTMs? Epidural for sure. I had one with DS and it is so wonderful and well worth it. I did experience labor/contractions for a few hours just to know what it felt like, and it hurt pretty bad - so the epidural was a huge relief!

  • I really just came to see who is still working out. High fives to both of you! I had lofty goals to run throughout my pregnancy and I just couldn't/didn't.

But I totally feel you on wanting my body back. I feel a little trapped right now. Bed rest probably doesn't help that feeling. Keep up the good work and I fully expect to join you 6-8 weeks pp.

I'm sorry about the bed rest. Not too much longer. It will be nice one LO is here to start back into a routine again. Even though I am exercising, I wouldn't call it super intense or anything. My cardio consists of walking in my neighborhood pushing my son in the stroller and my strength training is a prenatal exercise DVD that lasts about 25-30 minutes. I can't wait until I can do one of my regular workouts again!

Ditto. Strength training 3x per week. While it is a prenatal DVD, I definitely feel it in my muscles afterward. I'm, sadly, also reaching the level of physical exhaustion where I need a nap after working out just so I can stay awake and get work done. I keep trying to go to the gym and get in a solid 30 mins on a cardio machine, but it's very frustrating having to pee every 10 mins. Same with walking around the neighborhood. I almost popped a squat behind some bushes in a ditch when we went out for a few miles this weekend. Gimme my body back!

  • @pandadair - I hate the I-HAVE-TO-PEE-NOW sensation. I leave my class and pee and am pissed because its like almost nothing. I have a feeling it's only going to get more intense. I hate doing jumping jacks for that exact reason.

@CopperPoppy - Sorry you're on bed rest. I'm sure that is no fun at all. Check back in after LO is born. I want to try and do some type of challenge for those of us who are trying to lose the weight - I know for me, motivation is key.

  • I feel ya on final feeling pregnant.

    Week:33 weeks

    Exercise Log:
Mon: ellptical 40 min legs 20 min
Tues: walked 1 hour legs and arms
    Wed: legs and arms
    Thurs:nada
    Fri: walked arms
    Sun:legs

Rant/Rave: I keep re aggravating my shin splints from my run a few weeks back :(. I've been busting ass with school work just in case bub decided to show up early. Which doesn't help my shins either from the sitting -.- I think all the working out is still helping even though its not much anymore; I haven't started swelling at all and I sleep great.

Goals for this week: try and do as much as possible without aggravating my shins further.

GTYK: What type of pain relief will you be using during labor (medicated and non-medicate)? STMs - any advice for FTMs?

EPIDERAL!! Haha def get a belly bandit or postpartum belt of some sort. I left feeling so gross and saggy it was very depressing :((

  • Week:  29/30 weeks
    Exercise Log:

    Monday - 30 minute walk
    Tuesday -
Wednesday - One hour prenatal yoga
    Thursday -
Friday - 30 minute walk and 30 minute yoga
    Saturday -
    Sunday -

Rant/Rave:  Rant - I wish the nursery was painted.  Rave - So far have had a few days with no heartburn...so relieved.

Goals for this week:  More walks and weed my flower bed

GTYK: What type of pain relief will you be using during labor (medicated and non-medicate)? STMs - any advice for FTMs? FTM here so no advice, but def looking forward to reading some advice. I am pretty open-minded, though I would like to go unmedicated.  I am both high risk and having multiples so I need to maintain an open mind about how it will all go down.  Some folks have mentioned having the epidural line placed in case of emergenecy c-section with twins.  But my OB has not said anything about that yet.

    Week: 30
    Exercise Log: Pffft. ZERO.
Rant (no raves ATM): I've been sidelined by RLP, contrax, and yet another cold.
Goals for this week: To do at least 3 workouts.
GTYK: What type of pain relief will you be using during labor (medicated and non-medicate)? RCS, baby! Spinal block! The very best kind of pain relief.
STMs - any advice for FTMs?: Just do what you can handle. There are no medals handed out in the delivery room; your trophy is your healthy baby. Childbirth is a huge accomplishment no matter how you do it.

  • 31 weeks- mo /di twin boys

Mon: mommy/toddler yoga (30 min yoga for me)
    Wed: 30 min walk
    Thurs: 30 min walk
    Sun: 30 min walk

Rant/rave: I told DH I needed to do some weights bc I was feeling flabby. He said I looked way less flabby than when I was pregnant with DD. Ummm, thanks? Lol

Being active is becoming more and more difficult as I'm measuring about 38 weeks now. Yoga feels great but my belly is getting in the way more and more.

Goal: strength training. It's been weeks since I've lifted weights to tone.

I had an epidural with DD and plan to have one again when the pain becomes unbearable. I was lucky bc it was just enough to take the pain away but I could still move my legs and feel the pressure to push. Hoping it's like that this time.

Advice: don't be too hard on yourself if things don't go as planned. Bringing a newborn home is really hard and you are sleep deprived and your hormones are going crazy, so the last thing you need is to add to the emotions by beating yourself bc your delivery and/or BFing didn't work out the way you had hoped.
  • Week: 34, feeling bigger by the minute
Exercise Log: Tuesday & Thursday: Ran 3.5 miles and elliptical
Rant/Rave: This qualifies as both but totally skimped out on the workouts bc I went to Napa/SF for my sister's bachelorette party and instead I totally pigged out on In N Out, Steak, Ghiradelli chocolate sundaes, clam chowder, you name it, I ate it. Totally worth it!
Goals for this week: Get back on track. Going to try running this week and see if I can still do it.
GTYK: What type of pain relief will you be using during labor (medicated and non-medicate)? STMs - any advice for FTMs? I am definitely getting an epidural, it's not even a question.
