Hoping she's not relevant enough to stir up even more anti-vaccine crap but you never know.

Kristin Cavallari (spelling?) thinks vaccines cause autism and she's oh-so-educated on it where she doesn't even know the name of the practice she's talking about.

ETA: please don't ask how I ended up on that site - I'm really bored today.

Absolutely everything gives you autism nowadays. If we took heed of everything on the autism list, our children would perish after a few weeks. This woman is stupid and i hope her children don't make other children sick because of her poor education.

a few years ago I read some article linking women's beauty products like lotions, makeup and that kind of stuff to the rise in autism....

Then I watched the Business of Being Born and one "expert" postulated that there may be a link between birthing drugs and autism.

Everything will cause cancer and autism and gay. Always.

I had a cousin tell me not to get an epidural because my children would be too "stoned" to bond with me after birth. She also didn't believe in vaccines. Cause, you know, whooping cough isn't deadly....and small pox scars are sexy. Ugh!

Erm...there is proof that epidurals can absolutely make your baby drowsy after birth. It can vary depending on how long the epi was in place, how strong it was and other things, but it's very much a real thing. I'm not saying epi's are the end of the world, and I personally don't care if you get one or not, but you might want to look into that a bit more if you have made your decision without understanding that risk, or assuming your cousin was wrong.

That said, doing ANYTHING solely based on the fact that a celeb does it is stupid. Anything.

I wonder if she realizes that the study done in England in 2004, was actually falsified by the doctor that preformed it? Many of the co-authors of the research project withdrew their names due to its obvious flaws.

Took me all of 5 seconds to find something that disproved the study that stirred the pot and lead to many people's views on vaccines and its link to autism. I'm not arguing that vaccinations don't cause medical issues by any means or that autism isn't something that we as parents should be educated on (my neice is autistic), but by doing just a smidget of research, the scholary data out there can provide us with much more educated response Kristin and Jenny.... Here's one that was just released last year by the Journal of Pediatrics based on the antigens in vaccines,

Yes, he got struck off last year and i think (without googling) he ended up going to prison. Now we have outbreaks of measles, mumps and rubella and lines and lines of people waiting to get their kids vaxed. The system can't keep up. All because of one stupid, irresponsible person.

I remember when i was at school, we just went and got vaccinations when we were told to. Half the time we didn't even know we were getting them and i don't think our parents did until we got home and told them.

That whole thing is kind of crazy! Kids here get vaccinated in schools too but it's not just sprung on them at random. The public health unit sends a letter home with every kid specifying which vaccines are due at that time and they provide a form for the family doctor to complete indicating whether or not the child is up to date on their shots. The form must be returned and there is a deadline set by which, if the kid doesn't bring back the form or get the shot (either from their doc or from the nurses when they come to the schools), they are suspended from school until they do.

@NorthernGal248‌ - I'm not sure it's protocol anymore, as this was the 90s before a lot of these reports came out. I don't think schools would dare do stealth vaccinations on kids now. Can you imagine how many parents would sue?

I saw her interview.. I just laughed. I work with children who have autism, people just need to educate themselves on the disorder. And I feel like people are saying everything causes autism. Just like everything causes cancer.

That I am ok with. I guess it'll be another thing I will need to look into before signing up my child for school.

I'm sure that there are a lot more reports that must come out now. I honestly would freak out if I found out my kid had some sort of shot without my permission - any shot is a big deal.

I remember being in the 7th grade and getting a shot without my mothers permission. The school nurse called her and notified her. My mother spoke very little English back the and wasn't able to understand her - whenever my mom wasn't able to understand she would tell the person 'I do not understand.' Instead of sending a letter home or asking an ESL teacher to translate she called me into her office and told me that she called my mom and I am supposed to get a shot right now. When I came home my mom was extremely frustrated and ended up going with a translator to the school. Turns out my mom wasn't the only one to complain about not understanding the nurse (she had done the same thing to multiple kids whose parents spoke little English). She ended up not coming back during the next semester.

@NorthernGal248‌ - that sucks that the nurse was too lazy to have the situation properly explained to parent before just diving in.

At the schools I attended, it was normal to get vaccines whenever they came up. If you we're exempt then you had to provide a letter at the start of the school year. I think all parents just knew that their kids would get vaccinated and it seemed to work. I remember there being 2 girls in my class who were exempt because their parents were all-organic vegetarians (I'm a veggie too - I have vaccinations).

I went to school in the 90s and I remember getting vaccines at school, after my mom signed a permission slip. I don't think they have done stealth vaccines for a very long time, if ever at all.
