Advice for sick lo

So S has been vomiting this afternoon. This is the first time I've dealt with this so we're in uncharted territory here.
She's thrown up both feedings in the last 4 hours. Not immediately after eating, but within the hour. Not violent projectile vomiting but this is def more than spitting up.
No fever, no diarrhea. No wet diaper in the last 5 hours. She's tired but fighting sleep. She's not her usual bouncy self but not acting horrible either...she's ok, just kinda chilling out sitting & babbling peacefully.
I guess my question for those who have btdt is at what point should I be concerned enough to take her to urgent care? Things I'm finding on dr google say 12 hours.
I just gave her a little water & waiting to see if she keeps it down. Any advice is appreciated. I'll be calling her pedi in the morning, I just need to make it through tonight!

Re: Advice for sick lo

  • I never take my kids for vomitting unless it's well over 24 hours. I would try 5 ML of pedialyte to see if she can hold it down. When LO was puking a couple of weeks ago, the nurse recommended not nursing, but I did anyway. He ended up having a virus not a stomach bug though. Good luck- hope she feels better!

M is sick, but differently. Fever x 2 days, runny nose, cough. No vomiting.

Agreed w PP. Gently encourage fluids, see pedi if baby isn't keeping anything down in 24 hrs. Listless, sluggish, feverish.

    Hope LO is better soon!!!!
  • My LO just went through something similar a few days ago. I just assumed she had the bug I was trying to fight off and it got better after 2 days or so.

The first night she threw up twice after her nighttime bottle and I had to change the sheets. She was harder to put down for the night and she also woke at 3am which is unusual. She was her happy self all day though.

The second night she threw up twice after 2 of her bottles, was a little hard to put down but didn't wake up through the night.

By the third night she was good and was back to normal sleep.

I wasn't going to call the ped until it was projectile or another symptom popped up.

Hope your LO feels better soon!

  • I haven't been there (knock on wood), but the no wet diapers would concern me. Take PP's advice and try and get some fluids down. I'd call a nurse line, and see if they have any advice for you.
Good luck! Hope LO feels better soon!

I agree with this. When my LO had her stomach bug we mixed pedialyte into her bottles (2 oz of formula, 2 oz pedialyte) which kept her hydrated. Her bug lasted about a week. I hope your LO feels better very soon!!

  • I just asked my pedi about this the other day. He said to keep nursing. They need the calories. Pedilyte is ok but nursing is better. They should have at least 3 wet diapers in a 24 hour period. If after 24 hours she isn't improving I would go see the doc or sooner if she seems sluggish or listless. Hope S improves by the morning.

  • Thanks everyone. She ate at 8:30 and went down for bed & has been out since. No vomiting since the last feeding. She could be wet but I'll wait for her to wake up to check.
I've been checking on her every hour...I'm so paranoid she'll get sick in her crib.
FTM worry wart over here :) looks like she's doing better though.
