So last night was DS's first night in his big boy bed. He went to sleep right away like he always does and didn't fall out or climb out all night long. His normal wake up time is 7am, but today he got up at 5:30am and ran through the house yelling "snacks snacks". I got up, grabbed him a quick snack and told him it was still night and he needed to go back to bed. When I put him back in bed he was shivering from his wet diaper I assume, so I changed it and got into bed with him while reminding him it was still night and we had to go back to sleep. He had a full on freak out and screamed for the light to go on (I left a night light on overnight but he wanted the overhead light on). Then he started getting into the toys in his closet and it became clear he was not going back to bed.
My question is, is the much earlier wake up time normal for awhile? Will he eventually get back to his normal time? Should I have just ignored his request for a snack (he has never asked for a snack that early before)? Should I avoid getting into his bed at all(it's not a habit I want to get into)? What would you have done in this situation?
Re: What did I do wrong re: big boy bed?
I imagine it will take some time. You mention he is waking up in a different room as well. Perhaps he was just confused. He may have went on to activities that comforted him. It may be that he needs to re-establish his routine. A different room and bed might seem like a big change to him.
We have the child safety knob on. I am usually a light sleeper but I do not feel comfortable letting my toddler have free reign of the home while I sleep in case I do not wake up.
It will take him some time to get used to the change. You may have to remove the toys from his room at first. We even screwed the dresser and book shelf into the wall.
It sometimes takes a while for the transition. You should be ok in a week or 2.
Hence, why my 2 1/2 year old will be in a crib for a much much longer time
Bedtime is great now, it's just naps that he's struggling with. He has only napped once in his bed and all the other days it has been a 45min nap on the floor by the door
