9-month appointment development check list

LO had his 9-month check-up today. They had me fill out this check list of different milestones I've noticed LO reaching. As a working mom, I have to say it was hard for me to answer some of them because I haven't done that particular thing with him or I'm not around during the day enough to notice it. Sad.

The sections were labeled Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Social, etc. I already knew he was lagging behind in gross motor because he's a pet rock pretty much. I couldn't check a single thing in that section. The doctor isn't concerned at this point. He said he could tell he was making some progress and that's what counts.

It was interesting to see what they expect from a 9-month old though. I wish I'd had a copy of it going in so I could have tried a few of them with him. Like one asked if he would uncover a small toy if it had been completely covered by something. I don't think I've ever hidden his toys from him, so I have no clue.

Anyway, I now know what I need to work with him on. Did anyone else do this survey at their appointment? What did it tell you about your LO?

You probably did the Ages and Stages questionnaire. It's also meant to give you some ideas on activities to do with your LO. Don't stress about it!

ETA: If you go to their website you may be able to view the questionnaires, but I'm not sure. They may be copyrighted.

We have those. Our Dr. Gives us the questionnaire ahead of time to fill out. So I already have the 12 mo one. Ask them if you can have the next one. That particular activity is just checking for object permanence. Does she know the toy is there even though she can't see it. (That was my interpretation anyway. :-))
  • @jennok I always read "what to expect the first year" to see what my lo should be doing etc. Its very helpful '
  • We get asked the questions but don't have to fill out anything.  My doctor is always quick to point out that it's not that these things are absolutely things they should be doing by the appointment.  They are things most kids are doing, starting to do or should be starting to do SOON so don't think that if you can't check every box that your kid is behind :)

  • We didn't have any questions like that to fill out, but I did look that questionnaire up.  Don't feel sad about not knowing the answers, I'm a SAHM and I don't know all the answers on that questionnaire.

Heres the link I found for any interested.

I'm a lurker (DD was born in July but due in June and I'm just never at the computer enough to be consistently active).  I have to come out of lurkdom to say that this is why I love the internet.  I was totally looking for something like this but didn't even know I was looking for it!
