Breastfeeding

Pumping and bottles

In preparation for day care, I wanted to start pumping and give LO a bottle a day to get used to it. He is 5 weeks old. If I pump between 4-6 oz should I be giving him all of it or splitting it out.

Re: Pumping and bottles

  • you probably don't need to do it every day, just a couple of times a week is fine-- because you will have to pump for every bottle he has. no need to stress yourself unduly. also, it's probably easier to have someone else give it to your LO when you are not around, since many babies will want mom to nurse them and resist the bottle. also take a look at this link on how to bottlefeed the breastfed baby.

  • At that age they should only need 2-3 oz per feeding. But put more in there if you want. It can be saved in the fridge for next time. Someone was saying their DC's policy is to always throw out BM after a feeding which I think is total crap. Save that stuff, it's liquid gold!
