Bleeding :(

I noticed minimal dark blood beginning Thursday. Went to the ER that night and into the morning of Friday. HCG levels were low. Did external and internal ultrasound. The sac is there...the doctor diagnosed it as a threatened miscarriage. I'm now bleeding a little more, some brown and some dark red. I only bleed when I wipe after using the restroom.

I think I already know the answer to this question, but am I miscarrying this baby?

I'm so sorry that you are going through this! Unfortunately, only time will tell. How far along are you? There is a wide range of what is considered "normal" for HCG levels, it is more important that your numbers are doubling properly. If you are very early along, I'm pretty sure that it's possible only the sac-and not the baby would show up yet. For now, put your feet up and drink plenty of water. I hope that things turn out okay for you!!

Kaimee, I am 5 weeks, 6 days along, however, when the ultrasound was done, the radiologist said I measured 4 weeks 5 days. I wasn't expecting them to be able to see the baby, but the fact that the sac was there was a little comforting. They didn't tell me what my HCG levels were at the ER and I wasn't told when my doctor called to confirm the pregnancy. I don't know what to do think and am so confused

@hayleehunter, How sure are you of when you ovulated? If your due date was determined based on the date of your LMP, it's likely that you ovulated later than the typical CD14, and that would explain the discrepancy between what the ultrasound said and what your due date was. It may also explain the low HCG levels. When did you get your BFP?

I'm having a little bit of spotting today when I wipe (I'm 5w2d). I called the on call nurse for my OB's office, and she told me that unless I'm bleeding heavy like a period or having severe cramps (especially on one side), there isn't any reason to be concerned. Apparently, the embryo may be digging into the uterine lining and getting comfortable, and that can dislodge a bit of old blood. She said that brown blood is better than bright red.

I've had spotting and periods of heavier red bleeding from day one. I am now 9w6d but am still being told its a threatened miscarriage as long as there is bleeding (apparently a 50% success rate). As hard as it may seem just try to relax and remain positive. A lot of women bleed and go on to have normal healthy pregnancies. Do keep in close contact with your OB and make sure you're being monitored. Hopefully your bleeding resolves soon. Fingers crossed for you.

@MmmPopcorn, I really am no sure of when I ovulated. My LMP was 2/11, but I think it was a fluke because I had stopped the pill on 2/1. My LMP lasted until 2/14, so a lot shorter than what I was used to. I got my first BFP on 3/7. The bleeding is brown and sometimes goes to dark red, but never bright red. Maybe I tested way too early?

@mandymc26, I will be calling my OB in the morning to push to get in tomorrow rather than wait until Tuesday. I hope that maybe my dates are just off and this might just be implantation.

I would see if your doctor can find out what your beta was, and maybe get another one drawn-if your numbers are doubling well, then that would be a good sign. If not, I know that it would be heartbreaking, but probably better than not knowing. Also, if you weren't temping, then there's no way of knowing for sure when you ovulated, so you could have just ovulated later than you thought you did. Birth control can definitely mess with your cycle, so anything is possible. T&P!

This happened to me in 2009. I'm not trying to sound negative but I had a chemical pregnancy. However there was no sac or anything on the u/s. The ER called it a threatened mc as well and within 3 days I had lots of bleeding and passing of tissue. I didn't even wait another cycle before trying again and I got pregnant with my son. Thoughts and prayers your way!
