My LO is 6 weeks old and has started getting really fussy immediately after feeding. He'll arch his back and neck and cry sporadically, and also gets gassy. He used to just spit up a lot but seemed happy, but now it's still not unusual for him to spit up several times after each feed and now he seems so uncomfortable. He also coughs sometimes and makes a face that looks like something came up into the back of his throat. I know he does swallow a lot of air at times due to my overactive letdown. Last night he cried after every MOTN feed and took a long time to get settled back to sleep.
I suspected reflux and took him to the pedi. She recommended probiotic powder twice a day and simethicone drops three times a day, more frequent, shorter feeds and more frequent burping. She also gave us some samples of Colic Calm gripe water and Tummy Calm. If none of these things seem to help we would consider prescription meds, but I would like to avoid that if possible.
Anyone else having or had these symptoms? What helps or what did your pediatricians recommend?
Thanks!
Re: Reflux and/or gassiness

reflux, but the choking/gagging at letdown was more likely the culprit.
So I met with a lactation consultant and she agreed with the pedi. I was told to try block feeding so she was getting more hind milk and not filling up on the foremilk which would be causing the gas.
So if your pedi rules out reflux, you might want to meet with a lactation consultant.
And this is after he burps like a champ after each ounce!
We go to the pediatrician Tuesday,
Good luck, mommas!
