July 2013 Moms

Should we have done this already?!

This is how busy it is over here: we are still on number 1 nipples. We tried to make the switch to 2 a few months ago, but the result was more spit-up and I honestly forgot to try again. Have most of you made the switch already or are you sticking with the 1's? She drinks her bottles just fine on the 1's.

  • We still use 1's. Our pedi said not to switch since he's bf.

Watching- was wondering the same thing from other BF Mommas. I have the twos but just forget to use them since he doesn't get a bottle every day- and he sucks down his milk with the 1 like nobody's business!

  • He gets pumped breastmilk and we just switched to level 2 on Friday. Daycare says sometimes it takes him an hour to finish a bottle. I don't know if he's distracted or what or if level 1 is just too small. I know they say not to switch if baby is breastfed but we are just trying it out for now.

There are three reasons for breast-feeding: the milk is always at the right temperature; it comes in attractive containers; and the cat can't get it.  ~Irena Chalmers
  • We are FF here and we switched about a month ago. We went from 1 to 2. There is a 3 option but E gets too excited sometimes and chokes on the 2 nipple so we will probably not switch.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • We switched to level 2 at 7 months. DD is bf and was refusing bottles at daycare because she was getting frustrated. I called my hospitals lactation consultants and they said it was fine to move up too.
We haven't had any problems since the switch. The lc said babies control the flow from the breast so when they are starving they make the milk flow faster.
If you aren't having problems I would stay at level 1 and save money on new nipples.

If she's doing fine, not getting frustrated, and not collapsing the nipple, I don't see a need to change. We are doing bm bottles. Still on slow flow. No plans to change.

  • Ditto PPs. Mainly BF'd, still on slow-flows for bottles with the babysitter. She takes her time, but doesn't seem frustrated, so we're not going to bother switching.

  • All my kids were EBF and drank bottles at daycare 5 days/week. LOs 1&2 used level 1 nipples until 12+ months. LO3 was taking an hour to finish a bottle and getting frustrated at 3 months so we switched her to level 2 and she's been doing great. Switch if your baby needs to switch, don't worry about the age.

  • FF and we're on 3's. When he collapses the nipple I move up.
  • We are breastfeeding and we just switched to 2s a couple weeks ago at the recommendation of a speech pathologist following a swallow study. They said she was working very hard with the 1s. Since the switch she is taking 3 more ounces per day at the sitter and I can't keep up but I'm ok with that since she is so tiny.

  • We EFF and switched to 3's Fast Flow about a month ago. She was getting frustrated with the 2's and wanted moar now!
  • We have been on 3 since about Jan now. He was getting frustrated, I have a chugging LO

  • I BF and give bottles for daycare.  We still use level 1 with DS and there seems to be no issue.  I never needed to switch DD the whole time she used bottles either.  If your kid is doing fine with level 1, then no need to switch.

This was us. She was having such a hard time with the 2's. We had some spit up for about 2 days and then she got the hang of the 3's. Bottles are so much easier since the switch.

  • Dd is breastfed, but gets bottles while I am working. Lately she's been drinking less and less, like a whole bottle less. Could she be getting frustrated? Should I go up to a level two? We are currently using the slow flow tommy tippee.

  • We just switched to fast flow and she's eating so much better now. I wish I would've switched earlier.
  • Still on slow flow. The nipple does collapse but DC says he doesn't care, and he chugs them down fairly quickly so I guess we'll stay here.
This is my experience as well. It seems to work for us.
  • Still on size ones here too. No issues here, but I am afraid of major spit up if we switch.
  • We just switched to level 2. With DD we stuck with level 1.

  • Our BF LO still uses Preemie nipples (Dr. Brown) while I'm at work, even lower than Level 1! It was the slowest flow we could possibly find, and it still works for her so we don't plan to switch anytime soon.
  • We switched to stage 2 at about 3 or 4 months. Can't remember. We're ready to switch to the next one though cause this kid can't seem to get that Pepsi down fast enough & is always collapsing the nipple.

  • We're FF and have been on 3s for a while. I think the Y-cut is next and we might be there soon. I tried a sippie cup over the weekend and DD didn't really love it.
